Very interesting dude. The gig last night was weird to say the least. Short and intense.

There's a very interesting interview with him discussing his philosophy towards music and in particular his vision of where music should be headed and his approach to that. I particularly like his idea that music lost its way in the 90's. Also, that things can happen with the language of pop that can't ever happen with "experimental" music. That it's our task as artists to make an intensive use of a major language.

I really like his stuff, but I can't help feeling that his ideas and philosophy are far more interesting than the music itself... which is no bad thing.

    Any thoughts on him?

    Rights for gays, oh yeah.
Been meaning to check out this guy properly, heard a couple of his recent songs and wasn't too impressed, especially the production, awful short digital delay on everything, sounds cold. But, I wanna delve a bit further back into his catalogue soon, any thoughts on where to start?

I couldn't help you there I'm afraid, I'm in the same boat as you. He has a ton of stuff from the 90's he did with Ariel Pink. But he only has three albums proper. So start there I'd say.

    Love him, love his voice

Is it true that he sings over a recording of his songs during gigs?

That's precisely what he does. While jumping around like a mad yoke, dressed as a square, sweating like a rapist, and starting the next song before the last one has finished...

    Sounds lame, but pretty enjoyable.

Cool. I see Kurt Vile right up there too. What's his record like?

He plays with The War On Drugs if I remember right. They're alright without being amazing...

I was looking at the bleep top albums of 2011 and there were several I didn't know - as I tend to trust what bleep choose as their yearly bests I generally have a listen on youtube... anyway, one of them was the John Maus album from this year. I'd never heard of him before but was pretty much instantly sold so bought the album, quality stuff. I'll definitely be checking out his older albums next.

Love this from the album, along with most others...
