Locking system failure

I have a '00 Focus and its been going perfectly and only just had it serviced. However I came out of the house yesterday and went to open the doors and nothing happened! The only way I could get into the car was open the boot and lean in and open a back door. So my question is what can I do? My insurance will only cover it if my keys are stolen and as I rang and asked this I can't suddenly have my key stolen. Is it expensive to get fixed?

I'm guessing the door lock was replaced, and you've been relying on the remote locking until now?

No nothing has been replaced. Its not remote lock either.

Do focuss have 2 door locks or just 1?

Is it the central locking that has failed?

Bit odd that both door locks can't be opened with the key all of a sudden. Any signs of damage to the locks? You tried oiling the keyhole?

My friends ford focus had a similar problem, turns out someone tried to break in by cutting the central locking wires underneath the passenger side of the car.

Deadlocks gone mad? Would that account for not being able to manually open either door? Didn't think a 00 car without abs as standard would have deadlocks tho!

No, no signs of damage or tampering to the keyholes. Very annoying tho :(

Personally as a first pass,I would saturate the lock/s with WD40 , which may help any accumulated crud dissolve and lubricate the mechanism. If it works one could later add graphite to the locks to maintain a free action. Oil would help trap dirt so graphite is preferred I am told.

Acting on this received advice resulted in my own central locking locking return to action only last week. ( just have to follow through and get the graphite now).

I'll give it a try and hope it works!

Had/Have a similar type of problem with a '99; the keys themselves were very worn. Then after losing my key one night i went out and got two new spare keys, the locks worked like they were brand new after that.
