Heather O'Reilly, along with Neymar et al, has been nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award ("An award used in order to award the player, male or female, judged to have scored the most aesthetically significant and "most beautiful" goal of the year" - Wikipedia).

This is great news. It will be interesting to see how far she makes it.

Great strike, but the play by the defenders in general was shocking!

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Stankovic undoubtedly

Rooney for me. Just ahead of Ibrahimovic.

Neymar is the best for me.

Video won't work for me. :(

Makes me happy just knowing there is a female in there!

Surprised Rooney's nominated. It looks a great goal, but it came off his shin, he hardly meant that

He obviously meant to catch it with his boot but hit it with his shin instead (like an inch away). Its still a stunning goal whatever way you look at it and would be a deserving winner.

I agree its a stunning goal, but it was only sheer luck that it didn't end up 40 yards over the bar, in that he didn't connect properly with it. As I said, it was a great goal, but I certainly wouldn't rate it as highly as some of the others

    Stankovic.

Though, there is a shocking lack of Eric Hassli vs. Seattle on that list...

Ross McCormack's overhead was better than the two that weren't Rooney's.

No love for dos Santos' immaculate chip? I reckon that, rooney and stankovic

It was great. But in fairness, Rooney's was the second if not third best bicycle kick on the list.

The 4 long range shots were the best (Stankovic, O'Reilly, Dos Santos, Ibrahimovic), then the belgian.

No1 else thinks the inclusion of the woman's goal is a bit of a token gesture? Good strike, but not really up there on the same level with the rest.

There was one woman on the list last year too so yes, very much so.

It's Rooney's award, all the live long day.

Lovely strike by your woman though, regardless of how shocking the defender was. I doubt many keepers would have saved it, male or female.

Neymar, brillant individual skill mixed with some great teamwork and passing.

    Ibra 2nd, Rooney 3rd.

    Neymar unreal! dos Santos better!

Overhead kicks are impressive, but that dribbling is just a sight to behold.

Any keeper able to move his feet would have saved it.

That mexican overhead was woeful. Hardly a GOTM contender, never mind goal of the year.

Neymar by a mile for me, followed by rooney.
The way neymar got around that last defender was unreal! Although, it looks like from his reputation and protection from ref's, the defenders are afraid to tackle him for fear of him diving.

Stankovic or the Belgian one for me.

Oh yeah, that belgian one was quality. Like Bergkamps one, but on the volley.

If anyone else scored the goal that Messi did, it wouldnt be on the list.

    Gio Dos Santos, Neymar, Stankovic

Stankovic made what he did look so easy.

    1) Rooney/Dos Santos (genuinely can't pick)
    3) Neymar

Still think Berba's overhead V Liverpool was far better than Rooneys'

    ******

    Completely agree.

The way i look at these things is that anyone, from the Champions League to the Sunday League, could hit a rocket of a shot that flies in top corner. (Not taking anything away from Stankovic's beaut)

But it's a different level of skill/class doing what De Cuelar? Giovanni, Lopez, Messi, Neymar, Rooney done to score

Completely agree. Benjamin DE CEULAER for me definately. The flick to get it over the defender was magic

I just came into make the same point (although Rooney's was a fluke :P).

And while even Neymar's looks stunning, my biggest probem with voting long mazy runs like that is even a dribbler with the heaviest of touches tends to have one of those runs the odd time when it all falls into place.

I'm torn between Messi's and De Ceulaer's. Messi's displayed such composure to take it over the keeper as he did, but he had much more space to execute the flick than De Ceulaer did, whereas Cuelaer had a a grappling defender to fend off in order to execute the finish.

Absolutely agree. You'd see strikes as good as, or better than, that every second week in any top league.

I can't decide between Neymar and Stankovic for this one. The control and link up play by Neymar is unreal but the technique required to do what Stankovic did is out of this world. Coin toss for me.

Jesus the defence for the lady's goal was shocking. The defenders just jumped out of the way of the ball. Though women's football is a low standard altogether.

Neymar for me. I prefer the skill involved in dribbling into the box than just lashing at it.
