Eircom extends deadline for proposals

    A deadline for interested parties to come up with proposals for Eircom's future has been extended.

    A statement said the independent directors of the telecoms firm's parent company, ERC Ireland Holdings Limited, had extended the deadline by two weeks until December 2.

    The statement said the decision was taken to allow interested parties more time to "prepare and refine their submissions".

    Earlier this week, RTÉ learned that Denis O'Brien's Digicel would not be going ahead with a bid for Eircom, which has debts of around €3.8 billion.

    Eircom, majority-owned by Singapore Technologies Telemedia (STT), has been in talks with its owners about restructuring its debt for months.
