There are some serious shot making holes ESP if wind gets up.

Greens are magnificent and bunkering out of this world

Best course in Ireland and outer space by far.

Argubly the best links in the world

I think is gets too much credit due to the great views around the course. It is a lovely place but you are there to play golf. Waterville beats it as a golf course, it has a greater number of good holes. I play it every July and December and the greens are never to much.

I think it's as good as Portrush, slightly better than Portmarnock and miles better than everything else on the list. Just a stunning course and has become my favourite to play anywhere in the world.

Too many blind drives for my liking. Royal Portrush and Ballybunion old are better courses in my opinion.

I know blind drives arn't to some peoples tastes but it doesn't weaken a course if there are some present. As blind drives at RCD go, the 2nd hole is simply genius, because if you find the correct part of the fairway the pin will be visable for your approach. Go off line and your approach is blind aswell. The 3rd hole is the same too in that if you take the line down the left hand side you will be ok. Go down the right hand side and you are blind into the green with the massive bearded bunker left of the green coming into play if you decide to be a touch conservative and not attack the pin but aim for the left hand portion of the green. It's intricacies like this that a lot of people either miss or don't appreciate but it's what sets it apart as a course. Granted the views of the mountains only add to things and its an attribute that other courses dont have but on the flip side, there are no sea views to speak off at RCD unlinke many other of our links so that arguement by the OP evens itself out in my view.
Each to their own but I can't agree that it's overrated.

why do people have a problem with blind shots on a golf course? It is a feature of course design that is used as a mechanism to provide variety as well as a different challenge. As mentioned in the post above, the 2nd for example at RCD if yo hit the correct tee shot you get your reward. A few blind shots on a course add to the challenge. Visualising the shot as well as trusting what you know to be the right shot from experience / have been told by either strokesaver or playing partners is a skill in itself.

Good post. The odd blind shot can provide a thrill not found with full visibility.

Played it once in the Ulster Youth going back a few years and loved the place.

I'm playing on Friday. I'm bringing a dozen balls and have set myself up to believe that breaking 100 will be a monumental score (16 handicap). Can't wait for it.

Played for the first time yesterday.

Definitely not overrated. It's the best course I've ever stood on. An absolutely amazing experience.

I played off the forward winter tees, which no doubt changes perspective, but it's nowhere neat as cruel and unforgiving as I was led to believe. It was just pure fun.
