    I have a Baxi Bermuda boiler 15kw (working OK). With manifolds up stairs, and down stairs, and it has 10mm pipes. I am thinking of upgrading to a new more efficient regular wall boiler. My question is will a 18kw new boiler be compatible with the manifolds and 10mm pipes. The house is about 120sqm. Built in 54.
    I would be obliged for any advice. Thank you.

    A 12-14kw HE boiler would probably do the job but put some sort of magnet cleaner on the system to protect the boiler from sludge, I wouldn't flush a 10mm system out with a power flusher as it could cause more problems down the line..

    I have powerflushed a few microbore systems and it improved them immensely. A couple of older valves started leaking but this can be expected even on a normal large bore system. I put in x400 two weeks before and then flushed with x800 on the day. a modern 18kw boiler would be self modulating so would only use what the system needs, it would still be best practice to size the boiler according to the heat load.

    @johnniek

    That's interesting about flushing a micro bore system I was always taught that it was one system and an old g.b over 20 year's old that should not be flushed as it would cause either a blockage or leaks..

    I even had a lad come into us in fas from magna clean to show us the product and he was even saying that never flush a micro-bore system!! but hey, he was there to sell a product:D If he had his way we wouldn't be flushing any systems!!!

    note to one self, don't believe everything that your told in fas!!!

    When I say a few I mean just that 3 jobs in Rathfarnham, so maybe I was lucky:D. I had no issues except for a couple of rad valves but I kind of new that some would go so just replaced the leaking ones before fill up.

    I too have power flushed a load of micro bore systems. It worked out ok but while it improved it, it still wasn't overly great. I can only hazard a guess as to why. Micro bore systems are a bad idea or the system was poorly installed, probably a bit of both.

    Oh and take with a pinch of salt what sales reps say.
