Hi. I just bought and had installed a new zanussi gas hob today. It was installed by a qualified installer. since he left today when I light the hob after a few seconds the hob switches itself off . The installer said there will be some air in the system and this will take time and usage to clear itself out . Is this correct or do I have to call him back. It doesnt happen every time but nearly every time. Also some sections of the ring fails to light completely. Is this normal for a brand new hob .

He is talking out of his backside as it would be a fundamental requirement for him to leave the gas supply/pipe purged, there is no reason the hob shouldn't work out of the box as its very simplistic and any faults should be identified at installation.
I would have the hob looked at for correct working pressure at the hob and/or if it's LPG that it has been converted properly, as for qualified your living in a country where you can become qualified with a 18 day course:eek:(not that there isn't good gas engineers out there)

Maybe just check that the burner cap hasn't dislodged itself first, if the burner fails to light fully it can cause the burner to shut down.

RGII are now advising RGI that if they come across gas hob without the required safety devices fitted then they don't have to take any action if the householder looks like someone who would notice if the gas has gone out, so now I'll have to figure out the test I'm going to use, maybe anybody who can see the flame from 10 feet they get to keep the hob and if they can't I'll cap it off:cool:

18 day wonders + terrible regulation enforcement =KABOOM:eek:

Moody enough on NG but it will be lethal on LPG, Still good to know that they are on the ball.
