Renewed for two more seasons

Is everybody happy, or has it already run out of steam? I still find it entertaining enough to carry on watching it.
Dexter has been picked up for two more seasons by Showtime.

The crime-drama series, which is currently on its sixth season and will now return for a seventh and eighth season, stars Michael C Hall as a blood splatter expert named Dexter Morgan who also moonlights as a serial killer of criminals.

Showtime president David Nevins said: "Dexter's enormous success is a real tribute to the great achievements of its cast, producers, and the powerhouse performance of Michael C Hall.

"The series is bigger than it's ever been in its sixth season, both in terms of audience and its impact on the cultural landscape.

Is this show getting better? I'm half way through season 5. Have watched five series in about two years. I miss Rita-she had great...presence.;)
There is a real gap in the show. I wonder if her death is an effort to go back to early dexter ? As for the other characters they (for supposedly normal people just seem to shrug off the deaths of partners-witness Quinn and Deborah.

I was kind of hoping this would be the last season. It better not go beyond 8 seasons.

Even though it has been average of late, I will probably continue to watch it until it ends as it's still better than some of the alternatives.

Yeah, this season hasn't been up to much. I also know he won't be caught this season or the next. That puts a bit of a dampener on it for me.

I'm not jumping for joy at the news but I'm not annoyed either. If it had finished after season 4, I would have regarded it very highly. With season 5 and not 6, it's become just a show that I'll happily watch every week but won't be dying to watch. Another two seasons of that is something I can handle. I can't see its reputation being enhanced by another two seasons (unless there's a major shakeup in the writing staff) but what harm.

I welcome the additional seasons. If I don't like them then I will simply stop watching them. I am hoping last weeks show was a once off in the **** stakes.

This week's wasn't too bad by comparison.

Not that I don't enjoy watching the programme but I was looking forward to a conclusion with Dexter - particularly the moment when Deb finds out what he is (if they would do that)....I thought the little scene with her and her shrink where she mentioned about a sister protecting her brother, thought that was interesting....will she do the same when\if she finds out about Dex.

I just am looking forward to seeing how they conclude the character - will he be caught, or just walk into the sunset?

Oh - if he mentions "light" or "dark" once more in this season, I'm going to f**kin' burst....I'm sick of that inner monologue schpeel

Exactly, it's delayed a lot of suspense for me.. Oh well

 I thought this season or next season would be the last surprised by two season renewal tbh

I quite enjoyed last season. This season though, has been poor. I'm guessing it will be a great 3 last episodes now that the
    Gellar "twist"
is out of the way.....but that doesn't make up for a the lacklustre writing.

Dexter needs a nemesis. Its as simple as that. He needs a serial killer who will rival him OR he needs a somebody at work to suspect him. He has had neither this year and its one of the reasons its been poor.

I'm glad its renewed though and I'm hoping next season will be back to form.

It won't be back to form though, that's the thing. Thinking Dexter will be what it once was is like thinking the same of new episodes of 30 rock, parks and recreation or desperate housewives. You just can't unjump a shark.

It might get better though if Dexter is found out.

They should have Deb find out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 243 ✭✭GoldRush4821

Yes, she should have, last season. But she didn't, so there's no reason to expect it will happen in this season or next... Would be awesome though.

At first I was like "meh, shows getting dry" but then I was like "omfg about time, roll on season 7" :pac:

I have found that season 6 is going slightly back to his darker roots...I personally didnt like the whole 'Rita and family' buzz - I prefer it when he is just dark, unfeeling and calculated!! Another two seasons? I say bring it on but they really have to bring a new dimension in.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 612 ✭✭✭McSpud

IMO series 6 was the worst, got away with far too many mistakes. Ironically I think while the show is gradually going downhill its probably more mainstream (less dark) now so more popular. Unfortunately its moving into CSI, NCIS, Criminal Minds territory now.

Oh no.. On the Dexter Facebook page, they're hinting at a season nine..

They might as well go for the whole 5 days a week soap-opera now. They can cross Miami with Royston Vasey and have a fictional city full of dysfunctional families and serial-killers, with every house having a hidden basement.

I love Dexter, but haven't been that taken by series 6. I think it should end on a high and not be dragged out by seasons that are going downhill. Nothing really grabbed me this season to get excited about the next episode.

I would have preferred if they had ended the series with 5 - a S5 with no Chase, or even an extended S5 with a more interesting villain introduced late season. Do not understand the Lumen hate at all, and it would have spared us from the drudgery that was S6. :p

It has been confirmed that the next two seasons will definitely be the last two seasons, and they have an endgame in sight. Probably a good thing.... I can't wait to see how it all ends.
