Set-Up assistance needed

I wasn't sure whether to post this in gifts or here - but I'll try here as it's a specialised question. Re-regsitered as he's also a regular user on Boards! :D

Want to get the BF something to assist his DnB / dubstep music production. Currenly he uses Logic, Cubase and Reason (I don't know which he uses more) and we have a mix of PC / Mac so everything runs the way it should (apparently). He has a MIDI keyboard also and a decent set of monitors

Is there anything that I can get him (as a Christmas present) that would be within the budget of around €500 that you could suggest? I went into a couple of music shops and got shown mixers (I think!?) but I really haven't a clue if they were just tyring to sell me something to get me out the door

I'm sorry - I know that's vague, but I honestly know nothing about music production at all and don't even know where to start.

any and all help appreciated. Thanks

being honest you're better off getting him a voucher for the 500 ;)

a mixer will be no good unless he has a multi i/o interface (and if you ask him he will get very suspicious!)

hmmm...you might be right...(considering I just had to google what an i/o interface was)...he really would think it strange that I had suddenly taken such an interest :D

I think at this point in time a voucher or a holiday is looking easier

thanks for your help though! Much appreciated...I knew it wasn't going to be easy

Slightly over your budget but this would probably be a welcome addition to his set up. Don't have one myself but I've heard nothing but good things about them.

thanks jiltloop...it would be in the running actually...its not that far over budget. I'll do some research. At least I have an idea of what I'm actually looking for now...so that's a great help.

    thanks again!

If you were my girlfriend, I'd prefer if you spent the money on clothes for yourself :)

Like, maybe a nurses uniform, French maid, and a nylon cat suit. That would be like a gift that could keep on giving and giving,,, and giving.

...So your boyfriend's a regular Boards user, you don't want him to see this, but you post a relatively specific list of his music gear and computer, the music he's into making, and the budget you both agreed on?

Not hating or trolling or anything, just saying you might want to edit your post a bit, if someone posted that much about my gear/Christmas present budget, I reckon I'd get suspicious :P

Good point. But...at least he knows I'm putting thought into it! :-)

At this stage - I'm going to ask him soon enough about the Maschine and let him decide if that's what he wants. We're together long enough that he'd prefer to get something that he really wants - rather than what I think he should have. But at least I can go and show him I've been thinking about it.

    Thanks for everyone's help!
