New user to IPhone 4

    Hi all,
    Got my new IPhone 4 this week and I'm completely lost :confused:

    I seem to be eating through data!!! In my cellular usage it says I've used Sent: 9.8MB Received: 31.7MB, I reset it yesterday at 5pm so that's less than 24hr usage. Before that I had somehow used 250MB in 24hrs!!!!


    Need any tips or tricks please from experienced users!

    Any tips on keeping data down? Really don't want the trouble over going over plan (500MB). have ordered wifi so I can connect to Wifi when in house.

    Go to settings > general > network and switch off cellular data.

    Thanks swampy353. What will switching the cellular data do? Can I still use web? I haven't got the Wifi yet to connect to.
    I was so excited getting the phone,didn't realise how complicated it is!!!!

    It will disable your internet access over 2 & 3G. It also disables MMS.

    You will still be able to use voice & SMS.

    Have you friends or family that you could visit over the weekend who'd let you use their WiFi connection?

    250mb in 24hours sounds quite high, depending on how many apps you were downloading, new users tend to download hundreds of apps in the 1st few days before they discover how awful alot of them are :) .
    I'm a pretty heavy user and I've never gone over my 1gb limit, in saying that I have wifi in the house and most buildings I go into, and most my app downloading is probably done when plonked on the couch(on wifi)

    I would also login to your mobile account online and confirm how much data you're actually using. Mine said 8GB in one day at one stage; it's a bug with the phone.

    I'm getting Wifi next week so hoping that'll kick the usage a bit but cannot believe the amount I'm going through! The second I set up the phone I:
    -Turned off Push Notifications.
    -Only downloaded Apps on my laptop ITunes and transferred when connected.
    - Have "Automatically Download" turned off in ITunes on phone so now downloading apps directly to phone.
    -Turned off weather updates,fetch new data and all other auto settings that were on.
    -Don't have any emails set up on phone.
    -All I have is fb and Whatsapp and barely use FB, do use WhatsApp to contact,maybe 20 msgs a day at most.

    Eoin how did you find out it was a bug?? Did you have to pay the charges?

    Sorry for all the questions but I was trying to be so careful not to go over my plan as I'm used to my BB on 50c a day charge unlimited.

    I logged onto online account and there's a 24-48hr delay in exact usage but this is what I found:

    Vodafone live! Nov 16 17:47:06 168.37 MB €98.63

    Then it says 0mb of 512mb data allowance used!!!! So I'm being charged for the huge data and it's not coming off my allowance plus how did I use 168mb the night I got it!!!!

    Sorry, I meant the bug was that the iPhone was showing much higher usage that I really was, so no charges. Maybe you really are using that much though - but you might be able to login to your account online and see what your network are saying you've used.
