    Hi all,

My wife is a lover of Blackberry and currently has a BB Bold - 2 year old model. It's a bit knackered so she now has the option of the following:-

    Android - HTC Sensation

    Windows 8 - HTC Radar

    IOS - iPhone 4S

    Blackberry - 9900 Bold Touch

She tried a HTC HD or whatever it was called about 18 months ago and hated it. Went back to her trusted Bold. I guess if having a physical keyboard is the primary criteria then the Bold is the only option but I'd nevertheless be interested to get your thoughts.

Her main use of the device is receiving and sending emails and text messages + phone calls. It will be used very little for web browsing or messing about with other applications other than using it as an MP3 player.

Long battery life is also a major plus but from what I've read the new Bold actually has a smaller battery than the one she has which combined with a much faster processor and bigger screen means it is only lasting one day of average use whereas her current (old) Bold is giving her 3 days or so.

    Thoughts??

    Ben

If that's all she is gonna use it for then the ones you mentioned would beabit pricy for a casual user.

i will try to give you and options based on my own experience - or better on my wife feelings - that she always share with me when i bring new phone. i will try in few words about each device. if you need more info i can do taht for you.

Android - HTC Sensation - nice device but a bit big for women and heavy -
-battery will last for about half day,
    +great interface
    -bit slugish while browsing.
    +easy to operate
    -extremly low quality of speaker
    +support flash player -
8mpix camera, dual core etc etc.

overall its a nice phone but i woudlnt buy it for my wife - or recommend it to her.

    Windows 8 - HTC Radar
-more less the same stats as above but a bit lower spec - smaller screen and smaller body.
OS isnt android but Windows 7,5
    -doesnt support flash
    -low battery life
    +easy interface
+easy to sync and operate with any social network (fcb, twiter etc)
overall its a nice phone but i woudlnt buy it for my wife - or recommend it to her.

    IOS - iPhone 4S
+stylish, good build quality- a lot of power
+fast and i think perfect choice for your wife - if you can afford it
    -doesnt support flash player
+not really big - easy to operate and write
+plenty of apps and friendly interface
    dual core, retina screen..etc etc
Again i think this may be the best choice for her. And i believe it will be! from devices stated by you this is the by far the best for her.

    Blackberry - 9900 Bold Touch
i am not a fan of BB andlately they are suffering from technical issues. BB system was down not long time a go. and i personaly prefer android or iOS instead of BB. therefore i wont recommend it to anyone i know or anyone that wanna experience top class phone.
    -low battery life
    -slow OS
Well if she likes BB then let her try iOS - more effective and extremly easy.

Hint: based on my own experience. i am not iOS fun or BB hater i am just honest!

Agree with the 4s choice too.
Although I know little about the BB as the only blackberry I have owned was the truly awful BB Storm.

I'd stick with the Blackberry. It's what she likes.

In the company I work with I tried experimenting with replacing some Blackberrys with Android. The amount of times I got "my iPhone or Blackberry never had this problem" made me abandon that track. There weren't problems with the Android phones, it was just user resistance and they were familiar with their own phones.

Now we stick with Blackberry. Our work requirement is like your wifes. Phone, text, emails. The Blackberry is fine for those 3. If that's all she's using it for why bother going with a different phone. A phone is just a tool to get a job done for a lot of people.
I know the Androids are better but if she's only using phone, texts, emails then the BBs might even have an edge with longer battery life.

    Mick,

You hit the nail on the head. There are better options out there in terms of enhanced functionality and design etc (I'm a big Android fan myself) but (as an ex BB user) I have to say that for what my wife wants (emails, text, phone and long battery) the BB is the way to go. She'd value the physical keyboard way more than any nice to have extra's the non keyboard phones can offer.

    Decision made.

    Thanks all.

To convince her into new phone os tell her you seen "insert girl who is younger than her name here" no doubt she will be driven to embrace the phone then ;D

On a serious note, I'd get the black berry most people who are attached to physical keyboards will find every reason under the sun to hate phones without them, save yourself the headache and get her a black berry.

Just stick with the Blackberry, its probably the worst device out of the bunch but for some reason women love BlackBerry's these days even though they are one of the worst devices on the market. Then again they love Twilight and X factor so hardly surprising.

If she has no interest in the additional features that Android,iOS or WP7 devices offer then there's no point in getting her one of those phones.

how come every phone except the iPhone for you had low battery life? I know folks that get 2-3 days from the sensation and radar.

And the iPhone hasn't that great of a battery life either anyway. The 4S has 33% less battery time than the 4.

Cant say for the Bold cause never used it. Never will. Nor know anyone that does, but Windows Phone, iPhone or Android have pretty much the same battery life.

What makes the difference to the battery life is your reception, battery capacity, screen size and technology.

The biggest battery killer is 3G. Put your phone into basic gsm network coverage mode and your battery will last you days.

Displays arent that big power consumers unless its always on. With the likes of amoled if you use a black theme it would help you save battery life as well.

Average 3G smartphone will last a day of medium-heavy usage no matter what platform it is
