Hi i've got one of these tanks with two solar panels and frankly there no good(with this lovely irish weather) anyway my question is how long should my immersion take to heat it up enough to have a shower, i've had it on now over an hr and its still only about 15degrees from the panels, power is getting to the immersion cause the lights flicker.. Not long in the house so first time to use the immersion.. Thermostat on the tank what setting should it be at?? goes from 65 to 25

is immersion in top middle or bottom of tank?

is tank stat for panels or other heating: and where is it located, top middle?

if immersion at bottom u could be looking at 4 to 6 hrs

    the math is easy enough

    google joules and watts.

basically u have c 200 l of water that need to be heated using saw a 2 kw element from 15 to 65

There is no link between the immersion and the heat from the panels. I have the same cylinder with my solar system, and my controller displays three temperatures, a) the temp in the solar panel, b) the temp at the bottom of the tank (near the solar coil) and the c) temp at the top of the tank (above the central heating coil). The temp at the top of the tank will give you the effective result of the heat from all inputs i.e. solar coil, central heating coil and immersion heater.

So if you want a shower you look at the temp at the top of the tank (which is normally far greater than the temp at the bottom of the tank). The thermostat has nothing to do with the immersion, it only turns on/off your central heating system.

I haven't even wired up my immersion, because I have a zoned central heating system. So I can't tell you how long it will take to heat the shower, but I reckon after and hour you are 'good to go'.
