    Are you superstitious?
I wouldn't have said that i was but in the last couple of months i have found myself worrying when i see just one magpie and relieved if i see a second.
I dont feel like this towards any other superstitions like ladders, black cats or cracks in the path, just those damn magpies.
    any thoughts???

There were three ladders in a row on a pavement.

No choice but to walk under the ladders as walking around them would have meant walking off the pavement and into traffic.

At the other end of the the ladders were three ladies who lunch discussing their options." Cant possibly walk under the ladder, Mary it's bad luck"

Well, ya know what, getting milled by a car eint so lucky either sista. Keep walkin' 0/

So they walked around the ladders and into the traffic??? i stood amazed? The traffic stopped.... thankfully.

No i havent been hit by lightning either. Bit stupid though i thought.

I've stopped gropping girls on the LUAS - Apparently it's bad luck...

I'm defiant in the face of superstition. I'll deliberately walk under a ladder. I regularly put shoes on the table. I'll open an umbrella inside the house for the craic like. And sometimes I try to walk only on cracks in the footpath.

For the record no harm has ever come to me.

I have this thing where I can't hear the last 7 notes of the Eastenders theme tune, you know, the whistley bit. I have to turn it over before that bit comes on or I just won't feel right.

    Is that superstition?

I wouldn't consider myself superstitious although I've gotten into the habit of saluting Magpies.

Try discreetly doing it in Germany... I swear the little c*nt just appears to make me look like a Nazi.

Although not superstitious per se, I am a traditionalist, so I do observe (and enforce) some superstitions simply out of respect for the tradition (Armies are big on tradition).

For example, no apricots are permitted on my tank.
Similarly, a small offering (usually a pen or some such) is sacrificed to the Turret Monster before an exercise.

    NTM

Not so much a superstition as good sense, no? Granted, local laws may prohibit such an exercise...

Hmm, I'm not superstitious per se, although I don't feel great if I accidentally smash a mirror, but that's probably because I have to go out and a buy a new mirror.

after reading this bit I thought this was turning into a why its good to walk under ladders story as I was picturing the 3 ladies on the the top of a ladder each in skirts :). then I was disappoint :(

because then I realised [after reading it a few times] you meant after the ladders and not at the other end of the ladders! :p

Wouldn't be superstitious myself but what gets my goat is women (well mostly women and womanly men) go on about stupid crap that's bad luck or ask if something that has just happened is a bad omen.
Biatch, sh1t happens, get over it. If ya think a bird thats after takin a dump on your head is a good sign then you are a thick idiot. And if you get run down by a car after walking under a ladder chances are you didn't look before crossing the road.

Try lighting a cigarette from a candle anywhere in Scandinavia. It will freak lots of otherwise rational people out.:):)

You should change your name to something more appropriate, like Senorwipesfeckall.

    What constitutes 1 magpie?
Is it that you can only see one or that there is only one within a certain distance?
What if one small magpie is standing directly behind a larger one meaning that you can only see one but there are actually two?
What if two folk are standing very near to each other and looking at a pair of magpie... BUT one of the observers has better peripheral vision than the other and can only see the second at the extreme limit of his field of view and the other cannot. Does one get good luck and the other bad luck?
