hand luggage-how many bags

    just wondering how many hand luggages can you have. eg i have a small sports sack. but if i bought stuff at the airport (sweets) outside before you have checked in are you allowed to bring that shopping bag aswell or must it be put into the sports bag. travelling with ryanair

    For ryanair, everything must fit into your one item of hand luggage, no exceptions for handbags, shopping etc.

    Other airlines are more laid back about hand luggage, but I don't think it's worth taking the chance with ryanair. They've even started putting tags on hand luggage while people wait/queue at the gate, so it makes it much easier and quicker for them to make you check it in if you've too many, it's too big or weighs too much (although I've never seen them weigh any... yet!). Make sure it fits into one of the racks they have around the airport before you get to the gate... and that it fits easily, they don't always give people time to force it into the space if they question it at the gate!!

    Occasionally people get away with it, but I never take the risk personally.

    Strictly one bag only from Dublin, that includes handbags, laptops, duty free, anything.
    They did make a change in a couple of UK airports (Stansted I think, Bristol, possibly others) earlier this year allowing you to bring a duty free bag as well, but in general I wouldn't take the chance.

    meant to be one bag but it varys by airport or the mood of the staff.

    How come they allow it in some airports and not in others ?

    Seems a bit unfair.

    Some airports kicked up enough of a stink about not being able to make money out of passengers before they departed. They don't publicise it though, afaik.

    I'd hanging around in the bar near the boarding gate in Stansted (I think) for over an hour, had just spent a few minutes wedging all my duty free stuff into my bag, the first time they announced you could have a second bag of duty free was as they called the flight. So they're definitely not keen to pubkicise it!

    But yeah, it was complaints about duty free sales being affected from some ariports, ended up doing a deal with Ryanair.
