What sector are you in? A know a couple of companies hiring in IT or telecoms. Try the usual ones - irishjobs monster etc. Or send me a PM.

I'm an electrician, but with plenty of mechanical experience(lifts/escalators),could consider a change from that though

I'm in a similar industry. I usually just end up doing a search on Irish jobs for service engineer or technical support or the like. Try doing a service for mechanical, medical devices or any other generic words that may link to service engineer jobs.

Medical devices sounds like a safe enough bet as regards job security, anybody know if its an industry where jobs come up often?

I have worked as a Service Engineer in Medical Diagnostics and Nuclear medicine for the last 12 years. It certainly has job security and pays ridiculously well plus always comes with a fully expensed car or allowance, as a result is very very difficult to get your foot through the door. I basically worked in England but as with most of the big companies the UK also cover Ireland.

I have worked on Pathology and immunoassay Analysers, Haematology Analysers, X-ray, NMRI and Nuclear Medicine (Linear Accelerator and Gamma Blade)

The only thing is its not 9-5 job, a lot of it is 24 hrs on call and work on the weekends. But in order to get the reliability from staff to attend the OT is ludicrously good.

Well I have a list the length of my arm now, but I graduated with a degree in Elect/Electronic Engineering back in '97 and my first job was Servicing Colour photocopiers.

Sort of just progressed from that.

Don't forget the stress involved. It can be a very stressful job and you'll spend a lot of time away from home (if its anything like our engineers).

Yeah I earn enough QANTAS frequent flyer points on flights, hotels & Amex to get 2 return BC flights from Sydney to Europe every 2 years.

Plus you have to make sure you don't F**k up, some of that stuff cost millions and spare parts for them is stupid money.
