Look out for or ask if the DPF was changed & the additive topped up. This is due at 100,000 miles.

EGR valve can get clogged up and need a cleaning.

407 is prone to ABS sensor faults ( Although I have my 407 about 2 years now and I only had one abs sensor fault )

I have the 1.6 HDi and I must say its great on fuel.

Row will be along soon. He is much more knowledgeable with the 407's than I:)

I think its a great car and I would buy another 407. The trick is to keep her serviced and well maintained. I change the oil in mine every 9k

Thats it in a nutshell Richard tea...

Aswell as the above lower ball joints tend to fail every 30-40 k mls and like most modern diesels today the dreaded dual mass flywheels will need replacment between 100-130k mls (depending on driver(s)

I'd buy another one in the morning...tbh theres great value out there but as Richard said above insure it was well maintained and better again if the dpf and dmf were replaced..;)

One other thing I have to add is make sure the heater is working properly both hot and cold on both sides of the car. The control flaps can break and although there is a repair kit available consisting of new flaps it is a dash out job to fit so a costly problem to sort out if you are unlucky enough to encounter it.

thank you guys for the help
i have a bit of thinking to do
    i have a bmw 520i year 2000
so i am hoping to move to diesel
i would love to be able to buy a 520d but finances wont allow
so i am thinking towards the 407 as it is only 1.6 so it is very tempting
also has the 407 comfort auto lights and auto wipers or were they an option on the comfort line
the only thing i will miss about the beemer is it had laser interior lights on the roof that shined down on the gear knobthe same is on the audi a6 i think
anyway i will have to find the gears in the dark if i buy the 407 which i am very temped to do
    especially after your reccomendations
    many thanks
and again any further thoughts you might have are most welcome
    thanks
