Havent been listening to much rock or metal lately, and when i do its the same couple of songs by the same few bands.I've decided im going to buy 10-15 albums in a couple of weeks, some bands that ive never had any albums of and maybe some gems that ive missed from some other bands.

A couple of the bands i want to listen to are blind melon, jethro tull and faith no more.

So what other must have albums are there that i might be missing from my collection

Yes to all the above. My kind of tunes.

I'd recommend We Live by Electric Wizard (actually f*ck it all their stuff).

A lot of grunge-ey hints are making it to this list so I'll add Temple of the Dog.

Oh and on the subject of Mike Patton (no I won't suggest Mr Bungle!). Try Tomahawk.

I actually dont have any of the albums named so far.

not much of a fan of anything much heavier than Pantera,so i think ill give Death and the like a miss.A couple that caught the eye as bands i like a few songs from but never really got into would be
    Alice In Chains
    John Fruciante
    Frank Zappa
    White snake

Gunna give the bands named so a far a few listens over the weekend, and if all goes well i might have to bump it up to 20-30 albums. :D

With regard to my post, here's the tracks you should listen to:

Five Finger Death Punch - American Capitalist - Generation Dead

Rammstein - Liebe ist fur Alle Da - Wiener Blut

Eisbrecher - Eiszeit - Bose Madchen

Machine Head - Unto the Locust - Locust

Katatonia - Viva Emptiness - Ghost of the Sun

Personally I wouldn't start a new MH listener with the latest album. (Can't comment on the rest as I don't really listen to it so I'd be bullsh*tting.......yet again).

Try the first two Burn my Eyes and The More Things Change. http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Machine_Head/335

By the looks of what you like, it's mainly hard rock as opposed to metal as such...

Here's a few that should start you off nicely on a couple of bands...

Alice In Chains - Dirt & Jar Of Flies
    Devin Townsend - Terria
Rush - Moving Pictures (whoever mentioned Signals, I wouldn't go this way when starting with Rush tbh, it's good but not as good as what preceded it)
    Pearl Jam - Ten
Twelve Foot Ninja - New Dawn & Smoke Bomb Eps (you'll need to download these as you won't find them over here I reckon. But if you like FNM I think you might quite like these)
Frank Zappa - Over-Nite Sensation (a more accessible one from him and a great starting point I think).
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia & Deadwing (someone mentioned Fear Of A Black Planet. That's a Public Enemy record. Fear Of A Blank Planet is a PT album that follows these, but better off listening to these first IMO)
Dream Theater - Metropolis II: Scenes From A Memory
    Oceansize - Effloresce

I have some more but don't want to overload the suggestion train!

May sure Live & Dangerous is on your list only 5 squids in tesco

You might have some of these but these are recent albums I thought kicked ass relative to other albums

    Gojira: From Mars to Sirius
Reverend Bizarre: So Long Suckers (trad. doom metal).
Reverend Bizarre: In the Rectory of Reverend Bizarre
Falconer: Armod (not as good as the first three but different and very melodic)

Also if you like Jethro Tull you might also like King Crimson

    Rush: Presto.

    The Who: Who Are You.

You may like a band called the RedNeck Nuns, they'll do the job I'd say. ;)

Lots of great stuff recommended already. Right now I'll just add Blue Oyster Cult to the list, the albums Spectres, Secret Treaties, and Fire of Unknown Origin in particular.
A couple of songs to get you started.

If your looking for something differant, check out Type o negative, world coming down or October rust. 2 class albums imo and not to heavy.

Jeeez albums to suggest to someone is so hard. I love Rush especially the early stuff and UFO the same but some of the later stuff I can leave. Both of those bands evolved over years and it would be impossible to say one album is representitive of them,or their best one.Get a "best of" to see what a band is like and then go from there is my suggestion.Try youtube for concert clips. If its rock you're after try these
    Nazerath
    BOC
    The Cult
Back street crawler - no best of though
Lonestar ( the firing on all six band, i think there is another band with the same name) No best of though
    Ten years after
    Lynyrd Skynyrd
    Bad company
    Creedence clearwater revival
    Bachman turner overdrive
    Boston - very easy listening

feck I could go on all night

and of course the usual suspects - Zep,purple, sabbath, free

anyway plenty of stuff to go through there, old bands but that reflects my age:D
