Rear window wiper has a mind of its own...

The rear window wiper on my Puma seems to have a mind of its own. When I turn it on, it doesn't turn on until after a while when it decides to come on by itself. The time between me turning on the wiper and the wiper actually working can range from almost instantly (which is pretty rare) to anything upto 20-30mins...

Its pretty annoying when its raining cuz u can't see much out the rear when its wet and the wiper refuses to work on command and will only come on when it feels like...

What would u think might be going on here?

    Thanks...

Perhaps a dodgy switch ? You could try waiting til its working and get out a multimeter to see what connections are which on the motor, and try hard-wiring it temporarily to check its not the motor itself. Do this at your own risk if you aint technical!

ISTR Pumas have bits in common with Fiestas, don't know if this extends to switchgear etc.

The wires come through in a rubber "tube" at the top of the hatch opening and they are prone to breaking in the tube on the Focus. I presume the same is true for the Puma. There may also be a problem with the relay. AFAIR the relay for the front wipers and the rear are the same so you can swop them. If the problem remains the same, you're into chasing the wiring!
