I see plans have just been announced to merge IRCSET and IRCHSS into one body... Anyone have any opinions on how this will effect research funding? I don't mean just PG funding, but also in general. I have a horrible suspicion that a significantly bigger proportion of the funding will now go to science/ medical research if…

Unlikely - even if the bodies are merged, it's unlikely to change the amount of funding being allocated to each type of research, just who distributes it - Arts and Humanities funding will probably be ringfenced away from Science funding.
