Why are petrol & diesel prices the same now?

I've noticed in the last week that the price of diesel in a good few of my local petrol stations (middle of Meath) are within a cent of each other or the same price! Since there is less refinement of diesel, how can the final cost be the same? The differential less than a year ago was up to 10 cent!

Is this demand due to a lot of people switching to diesel cars?
Is this retailer just hiking up margins?
Is this happening in other parts of the country?

Hopefully someone can explain this for me please

Hammertime: sorry - should have searched a bit harder :o

So the main reason is demand with home heating oil at this time of year. But demand will remain high as more and more people switch to diesel for lower emissions. Damn well I got a good few years of cheaper fuel out of my car anyway.

    Tks.

Nothing like a good triple-dip recession to bring the oil prices down some more. Unfortunately with the tax shoved on every time since then oil would want to be nearly free before it'd get close to 1e/litre again
