    Just looking for some advice,

What would ye recommend I do with my wife's car? It's a 97D BMW 320. It won't get through the NCT because the airbag isn't working.

Is there anywhere to sell these types of car?

    Thanks!

    Fix the airbag?

Get the airfbag fixed? Lots of that make of car sitting in breakers yards cause of head gasket failures and poor maintience. It wouldn't be too expensive

There is a market, but expect to be underballed completely if it has no NCT in that year. I mean, I've seen 520's go for about 750 wil soime NCT on them but for a 320... I honestly can't say it'd be much. Unless it's high spec'd.

    Thanks guys.

The cost of repairing the airbag is probably more than the car is worth (at least to us).

We will survive on one car for the moment, just hoping to claw a few quid back from it!

What?? An airbag from a breakers sholdn't be too expensive. If that was the ONLY problem, I'd get it fixed. Diagnose the car, find out which airbag is gone (should only cost a few quid to do this in a decent independant), go to a breakers, get airbag, get it installed, Bob's your uncle! Should cost less than 150 all in if you do the legwork of getting the replacement airbag yourself and would add 300 to the value of your car with an NCT. it's a no-brainer!

    Thanks, that makes sense!

I'll see if I can do that. As far as I know thats the only real problem with it (at least that's keeping it from getting the NCT).

    1. Stick it on Donedeal.
    2. Put 'will fly through NCT' in ad. (bonus points for spelling it 'enceetee' or similar).
    3. Profit!

97 BMW 320? Put it through the NCT first, find out whats wrong with it, then make a decision.

if its just the airbag light on, its a common issue with the occupancy sensor . you just need a bypass module and its about 5euro to fix

    Oh a 97D BMW. . . .

God, for a minute there I thought it might have been a 97G or a 97LK or something trashy like that.

    PHEW!

Assuming you haven't already but it through the NCT, when you counter in the cost of fixing it with the cost of an NCT, plus a possible fail on something else, plus plus plus, to me it would be time to cut your losses and sell as is. Put it up on donedeal for around €400, and see what offers you get.

Even with an NCT, a 97 2.0 petrol Bmw isn't going to make much more than €550-700, if anything at all.

Provided that's the only fault found during the NCT putting it through and having the fail sheet will assist in the sale as that will be the only fix to get it back on the road.
