From memory, QUINN or Liberty or Liberalized Quinn or whatever they call themselves are / were quite generous with who they gave their TP Ext too.

Axa changed the rules this year (a few months ago) to only allow over 25 to have 3rd party extension (driving other cars) because this loohole was allowing some people to drive higher powered cars than the car that they have the insurance on.

Are you confusing open driving with driving of other cars?

Open driving means people under set criteria eg age,are covered to drive your car under your insurance.

Driving of other cars means you are covered to drive a car you dont own under your own insurance.

You seem to move these threads from DIY a lot, is it a server error or something that happens?

    Sorry for being off topic!

Are you 100% sure about that? I know I can't get it on my insurance until I hit 25. Would be worth reading through your insurance docs, or giving them a call to clarify.

but now iv my full and over 21 axa said they have to quote me on anything ( even though the price would prob be ridiculous) :pac:

sorry to ruin the illusion Pudzey but nobody "has" to do anything. The man down the road does not "have" to sell you a pint of milk and AXA do not "have" to quote you on a policy.

AFAIK If you are under 25 you don't have 3rd party extension (driving other cars) anymore regardless of when you took out the policy. This new decision was to affect new and existing policy holders.

With Liberty/Quinn, and got the third party extension once I passed my test. You have to be a full license holder for Liberty to give the third party extension, regardless of age. Best thing to do is to check on your cert of insurance. If not sure, ring them.

Some insurers offer the third party extension as an optional extra etc. Most will not offer it until you at least have your full license, but it's different for every company.

Axa used to give it to pemit drivers over 25 and full license holders over 22. As others have said, I think they may have changed this now though.

Are you sure? I'm with Axa and had 3rd party extension up until renewal time (as far as I know), but don't have it after renewal as I'm 24. Surely they can't change the terms of an agreed policy half way through.

As an aside - when I was renewing, I was told that the policy would stay the exact same as my previous policy. It wasn't until I questioned the 3rd party renewal that I was told it was no longer available for under 25's.

Well in theory they can do what they like with their terms and conditions however if they retracted something that was on your certificate of insurance then they would be obliged to send you a new cert of insurance highlighting the change.

I dont think he meant a Mid Term change more so a change come renewal.

Never EVER take anything on here as gospel though. Always call your insurer to double check if you have any queries.

Exactly, there's far too many variables across different insurers for anyone to be 100% sure.

I just checked it there and you are indeed correct, If you had this extension on your existing policy, you will have it up until your renewal. If you are still under 25 at renewal, you will lose it.
