    Can somebody recommend some podcasting software and a microphone for the mac? My Mac OS X is 10.5.8.

    Yes, OK, "WireTap Studio" and any cheap headset off eBay. You'll also need a USB audio input device such as this:

    You could even use "Garageband" as your software or "Audiocorder", "Audacity" or various other applications.

    Logitech do a decent USB headset which can double up as a Skype headset too !

    Alternatively if frequency range isn't critical you could use any Bluetooth hands-free ear-piece paired to your Mac.

    Again, Logitech do a decent enough USB desktop Mic that has reasonably good sound quality.
