OIL BOILER STAT PROBLEM???

A neighbour rang 2 wks ago to tell me that her heating wasnt workin.i called over and told her to turn on the time clock and nothing happened.i pressed the high limit stat button and it cut on straight away.the only problem is that after 5 minutes i turned the stat down to 0 and the boiler stayed on.i told her that her stat was faulty and she would have to get an electrician.am i correct in saying the stat is the fault or could it be something else?

seems likely ok

but might check the circulating pump first

Was it a super q firebird, if so money on the stat

If the stat has a zero setting, this should stop the boiler firing

im not too sure cos it was fairly dark but all i remember was it was a grey coloured metal casing if that is any help.i think the house wud be about 5 yrs old

its the working stat.it failed and the high limit stat worked

(I would call in a non-working stat myself!)
