it should be possible. what is the end of your email address? is it @gmail.com? @eircom.net? we will need to know that so we can help you with the settings.

    Thanks Random. Appreciate it.

    It's @eircom.net

My @gmail.com ones synced automatically as it's a Google phone

you could install another app and use that, but if you want to access them via gmail its very simple to allow gmail to gather your mails
    here are the instructions
    https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=21288

i have my eircom mail and a few other accounts set up that way

Thanks subway, I don't want it set up via gmail, I'd like to keep them away from gmail.

ok, just look for the other email app on your phone. called, imaginatively, "email" :)
put in your eircom email address and password and it should set it up easily enough for you.
ill get a link to the settings in case it doesnt add them automatically.

afaik outbound mail wont work unless you are connected to an eircom broadband account due to their restrictions

    Mail server type: POP3
    Incoming mail server: webmail.eircom.net
    Outgoing mail server*: mail1.eircom.net

    OR Webmail access: http://webmail.eircom.net

*Note: If you are NOT using an eircom net connection, you MUST use your internet provider's own SMTP server OR eircom webmail.

    Tried that thanks,

Put in my e-mail address and password

It's states "cannot finish set up"

    "Server does not support authentication"

So I tried manual setup, it asks me the following -

    Incoming server settings

    User name - ??

    Password - shows my password

Pop3 Server - automatically comes up as eircom.net

    Port - Shows as 110

Security type - I can choose none, SSL, SSL(accepts all certificates), TLS, TLS (accepts all certificates)

Delete email from server - I can choose never or when I delete from inbox

username should be vicwatson@eircom.net or vicwatson, try both.
pop3 server should be webmail.eircom.net if subway is right.
    try none for security.

OP you can use outlook express to read your gmail on pc too btw, similar setup to above, put server details in etc. Lots of people that don't like the gmail web interface do this.

That worked for incoming server settings when I then went to outgoing server settings I have the following -

SMTP Server - I know this is mail1.eircom.net

    Port - 587

Security - I can choose none, SSL, SSL(accepts all certificates), TLS, TLS (accepts all certificates)

    Require sign in - ticked

BUT it won't let me proceed after that as it says "set up could not finish" "unable to connect server"

    :confused::confused:

possible to do with the eircom outbound mail restrictions.
try smtp.gmail.com as your outbound server, set no authentication required

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,131 ✭✭✭subway

just to say, ive just done this as a test.

enter your full email address and password.
    press manual setup
    change imcoming to mail.eircom.net
leave everything else and hit next
    change outgoing to smtp.gmail.com
    untick "requires sign in"
    clcick next / finish

you should have access now, but be unable to send emails due to the eircom, restriction

well, if you have access to an smtp server that doesnt require authentication you can send mails.
it depends if your mobile provider have one, afaik, meteor dont have one.
you used to be able to use smtp.gmail.com but it seems to be disabled now

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,131 ✭✭✭subway

hey, ive figured it out for you (needs a gmail account)

    outbound settings
    smtp.gmail.com
    requires sign in
    authentication type ssl
enter your gmail user name and password
you can now send emails via gmail servers that will be sent from your eircom account

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

If you set the outgoing smtp mail server to the one specified by your mobile phone provider, you will be able to send eircom email without a problem.

    3 Ireland : mail-relay.3ireland.ie
    o2 Ireland: smtp.o2.ie
    Vodafone: mail.vodafone.ie

Don't think Meteor have an outgoing smtp server so not sure what to do in that case.

the problem with picking one of these is that they dont work when you are on wifi then. the gmail one will work all the time.

Very true, but all one has to do is turn off wifi, and send using your provider.
Probably not suitable for everyone, but it suits me as I have a data bundle with no limits.
