    Failed starter motor perhaps.

I'm wondering more about your 'mechanic' who looked at it but hasn't a clue why it won't start. Did he even give an idea? If not, you need a new mechanic first!

    Go figure.

? You would be sure tis not the battery so would you ?

    Go figure.
Many people wrongly assume that just because the lights/windows/radio work the battery must therefore have enough charge to start the car. If you're going to be smart, be sure to be right.;)

I'd also suspect the starter motor...Check the fuse first.
    What year/engine is your 307...?

the engine size is 1.6 Automatic,2003 model.
checked the battery 2 months ago before nct and i was told the battery is completely ok,so would that be possible that with 2 months the battery will go, also i started the car drove for about 15min to pick my kids and after picking them moved the car and parked in a proper place to wait for the senoir one, after picking the senior one the will not start again, so can battery go down and completely dead like that, i called AA today they checked all the fues and they said it ok,they did not checked the battery but the checked the light,

The AA couldn't diagnose it? When you say they checked the light what do you mean? the battery dash light?

Are you using a spare/old key? If you are using a key that you have to put into the door to open it, then it's likely that it will not start your car, i have the same problem with a spare of mine that the battery in the fob is done.

Have tried to start the car with the spare key and the key with fob on as well, so do you think it might be immobilizer right? yes AA checked the fuses and they said its all ok.working well, the dash board light comes on fine.have to be honest here have not jump start it so will do that in the morning. one thing is AA men not all of them are expect mechanics, they just do simple checks .i believe so

Yep i'm thinking immobliser, the ticking over thing sounds exactly like what was happening with mine. If the button on the fob still unlocks/locks the car then i'm probably wrong, if it doesn't then you need to order a new key.

    Hi,

Not sure if this is relevant -but if all else fails it may be worth a try.
I have a peugeot 307sw 1.6 petrol. If I start it and only run it/move it slightly (couple of feet), the next time I try to start it - it will not go. This happenned a few times until a mechanic told me that on these engines when you start the car it burns the fuel in the carb - but it takes a few seconds for the fuel pump to cut it and refill the carbs - so if you stop it before the fuel pump cuts in then it will be starved of fuel the next time you try to start it. There is a small valve with a cap (grey I think) on the carb. If you unscrew the cap and depress the nipple slightly you will reprime the carb (you will get a smell of fuel) - hey presto the car will start - since ben given this solution I have never been stuck - as I said might not be relevant, but if its not electrical then maybe worth a try

Ok i would use this opportunity to thank every one here,God bless, you all, well the update is the car was towed to the mechanic today, the mechanic lefted the car and started the car from under the car and even moved the car round for about 20 min and told me that its 100% its not the starter so starter was eleminated and we waited for electrician to come and the elctricain confirmed that it is the starter switch.so i called every where and they said it only dealer, called peugeot and they told me its will cost 250 euro and it will take over a week before it arrives. does any one knows where i can get peugeot parts for a bit cheaper? thanks every one in advance.

That whole post is not how your 307sw, or any modern car for that matter, works in the slightest.

Your car doesn't have carbs, doesn't have anything fuel related that has to be 'filled' by the fuel pump, doesn't have any caps that are for priming a carb or priming anything for that matter.

I cannot find a part number for the ignition switch....:(
If the new ignition switch will take over a week to arrive would you not consider fitting a secondhand switch to test and confirm thats the fault....?

Is the auto electrician 100% sure its the ignition switch thats at fault..?

There is also the possibility its a faulty relay in the engine bay fusebox thats the problem....No point in spending €250 on a part thats not needed..
    best of luck.
