Hi i am an man who is late 20's and has been unemployed for quiet a while,i tried applying for jobs but usually don't have success.i was looking at college situation as going back as mature student but i think given the cost of living and possible cuts of grants or possible lack of places next year due to more mature students applying doesn't seem possible to go.

i have small bit of savings €1000 so far.i was looking at costs of going to australia soon if i save more quick enough. The problem is i don't think i have the correct skills. My last job was in retail work and i have done some basic computer courses with fas/fetac/post leaving cert.

i don't have kids or any personal loans or debts so i consider myself fortunate in this climate. But i find it very depressing to sitting home with parents and doing nothing with my life whilst everyone else is living their own lives in own places.

Would it possible to go abroad with my skills or would i be wasting my time?,any advice or other places to suggest would be great.

Have you looked at workaways.com or helpx.net or wwoof.org? All offer work experience in different counties in exchange for accommodation and food. Given you've got no ties or debts it could be a good way of seeing the world, learning new skills and meeting lots of new people...

I think the professional unemployment rate is about 5% while the unskilled unemployment rate is much much higher. You are getting dole money but that does not mean you do not have to work, as suggested you could do work experience in a position you would like to do. A better choice would be to choose a professional career which usually requires a college course, though I know that won't be easy. Nothing worth doing is ever easy and it will mean sacrifices will have to be made to get where you want to be. Maybe even working in the UK and studying there? This is hard in good times and in bad. The alternative is to go to Australia, and I wouldn't blame you if you did. But if you did go, you still need to train yourself and pursue a career that is fulfilling to you. Everyone is looking for jobs but I still believe if you are determined to get a job in a field which interests you, things will eventually work out and you'll find something. Good luck, hope it works out for you...
