Well the final chapter on this, today i was going up Brookwood ave in Killester and out of the corner of my eye i seen this reg on a 735 E32!!

Black colour looked well, on very freshly pressed black number plates and silver numbers.

Driving at the time so didnt get a decent look at the driver, would of loved to shout out ''Nice log book'', can safely expect to see it on DD.

    Surprise, surprise

What are the penalties for ringing a car these days? I do hope someone saved the original ad.

The original is still for sale for parts:

Handiest thing is to buy it, restore it, order a new log book and then park it up beside the other one and ring customs & excise.

Its gotten endemic at this stage and the NCT still does no check on the log book and car at the NCT. It would be one quick way to stop some of the rot.

Fair enough pre-1980 cars would escape this, but this could be stopped by making the purchaser of a pre 1980 car show up at the tax office if they want to re-register that car in their name.al is still for sale for parts:

    The reg is 9999IN.
A January 1982 issue so its liable for an NCT test yearly. I suppose the id tags have been swapped too so NCT man wont notice.
This is beyond a joke with older cars in this country.
Every week and sometimes more often there is someone selling taxbooks in DoneDeal. If you go to some shows you will see taxbooks for sale. There has to be guys driving around with cars they have bought that have been rung and they dont realise it.
Theres also cars seen regularly on this forum that are obvious ringers. Mention it and you get told off, but some are blatent tax avoiders, escaping both VRT and higher rate road tax.

Ringing a car with an obvious registration like the above goes to show how blatent you can be with doing this. The car isnt even the same colour.

I do wonder is someone in government/revenue watching these forums and seeing what goes on.

Spose they have bigger fish to fry.

Will we start a 'Today i spotted a Ringer and took a pic thread?'

I couldnt see that thread lasting too long. While there are people who do it, not every car Ive seen accused on this website has been a ringer. Some of the accusations have been down to people not having as good a knowledge of cars as they think.

However ringing an E32 is taking the piss. Would you want to be the one driving it up to a check point? I know people give out about the NCT test rightly or wrongly they would easily spot that.

Yes, both true, but many of them are pretty obvious.

Has anyone ever been caught? Are the cars staying on those plates for years?

If there was no vrt or crazy motor tax in this country it would eradicate this problem .Add a few cents to the cost of fuel at least that way it would be a pay as you use tax which would be fairer in my opinion rather than for instance some one who can afford a new low emmisions car paying just 100 per year for tax where as the person who can only afford a 98 golf diesel pays 600+ per year . Environment protection my ass, revenue collection more like.

Correct, i already pointed this out.
9999NI doesn't show on Cartell. It would be a March '79 registration.
