If I need a 2.6Ghz processor to run a certain game and my current processor is 1.66 core 2 duo, is that the equivalent of a 3.3Ghz single core?

    Nope, not at all.

Could you give the spec of your computer and the game you want to play?
Usually games are affected more by your graphics card.

Download CPU-Z and it will give you info on your CPU and GPU then post that info here and we can tell you better if you could run that game.

I don't have the computer to hand so I don't know about the graphics card. I do know its a 1.66Ghz core 2 duo processor. It has 1GB memory to which I intend on adding another 1GB. The game is Starcraft 2.

This site can be useful in checking if your machine is capable of running certain games. It isn't 100% accurate and there are other factors to consider, but it checks the basics, i.e: CPU, GPU (Gfx Card), memory, HD Space, Installation Media support etc..
