    Hi guys.
I'm not a mechanic as you'll quess by the query below
I have a 06 Volvo S40 and it needs a new BCM. I'm not that flush that I can afford 800 euro to replace it and turn off the light on the dash so I've been considering a second hand one.
The problem is I don't know what it looks like or where its located and neither do the guys at the car dismantlers! I phoned 6 yesterday and got puzzled responses asking me to had it lines, fuses and other assorted gadgetry coming out of it.
    Advice really appreciated!

Its attached to the ABS pump as far as I remember. Along the rear of the bulkhead, the pump has all the brakes lines running to it/from it. The BCM is the electronic part with the large block connector attached to it.

If its the brake pressure sensor fault then its not the control unit that's at fault but the hydraulic block.
You cant just swap a control unit anyways on a s40 as they are individually coded to each car.

The mechanic who diagnosed the problem has the appropriate computer for Volvo, so could a second hand module not be coded for the car using this computer?

As above it is probably the brake pressure sensor that is faulty which means the hydraulic section of the ABS unit needs to be changed rather than the control unit. They aren't that expensive to buy new.

They are about €160 quid from Ford. Your probably after the valve block as said above, its the most common fault with them. Have not see the ECU part fail yet.
