    From The Telegraph:
The RFU are expected to confirm Johnson’s departure on Wednesday morning. Johnson is understood to have informed the Rugby Football Union on Tuesday of his decision ahead of Thursday’s Professional Game Board review into England’s dreadful World Cup campaign.

Johnson, who captained England to their World Cup triumph in 2003, called a meeting with his coaching team on Wednesday morning to explain his decision to walk away from the job he has held since July 2008.
He will appear at a press conference alongside the RFU’s professional rugby director, Rob Andrew, at 4pm on Wednesday afternoon at Twickenham.

The decision does not come as a surprise given the amount of criticism generated by England’s poor performance in New Zealand, which culminated in a quarter-final defeat by France following unimpressive displays during the pool stages.

Johnson’s decision however is almost certainly to have been heavily influenced by the number of off-field controversies that dominated England’s campaign, which left the over-riding sense that some of his players had let him down and betrayed his trust in them.

Thoughts on this one? Personally I thought he was doing a good job with the team, building a nice squad, but clearly lacked when it came to dealing with the media and keeping his squad disciplined. The English team looked like they were on a six week stag party in NZ rather than playing in a World Cup.
