    Hi,

Need advice here. Am thinking of pulling the trigger on a 2004 Ford Focus LX 1.4litre, 92,000 miles, NCT till 2/14. The dealer is asking for 4,500 euros.
Comes with a 6 month warranty.

Is this a fair price for this car?

    Thanks

    edit:

    here is the car

It's a good price for the dealer. (It's about €1k over what you should expect)

As other poster said, the 1.4 us gutless. If you are going to be doing any significant driving/mileage, go for the 1.6 version.

why not try and get a 1.6 with less miles and some spec for €4000?

Didn't know you could buy a car with an NCT until 2014 though?

Other than that seems a bit expensive to me anyway.

My NCT runs out in 1/12, if I renew it today it'll run till 1/14, I think you can NCT up to 3 months before it expires giving you 27 months of NCT.

And if you today NCTd a car first registered on 16/05/08, you'd get a 30 month NCT until 16/05/14 :)

*first NCT can be done 6 months early, any other NCT can be done 3 months early

4750 is mental money for that car.

7 years old, 90k miles, bottom spec, bottom engine...

4750 would buy you something much nicer in my opinion.

nicer petrol focus in your budget

nicer focus diesel c-max in your budget

mk1 focus diesel in your budget, better spec'd

all the above cars are from dealers too so should come with everything buying from a dealer gives you, warranty, service, valet, N.C.T. test etc.

Looked at the car yesterday and put a deposit on it.
Was able to get it for 4,200 euro.

Very nice, absolutely spotless in mint condition. Had a friend look it over and couldn't find fault with it. Timing belt and water pump just changed.

They are a very reputable dealer.

Not interested in a bigger engine or higher specs (student on a tight budget).

Hopefully I made the right decision.

Wish me luck and thanks for the responses. ;)

Best of luck with it. Really good cars of that age are thin on the ground. It is worth paying a little bit extra for a proper car as you will save money in the long run. Let other people buy all the cheap crap off donedeal and learn the lesson the hard way.

Good luck OP. George, you're not necessarily right. Cars are one of the few things that can be picked up for peanuts in this country if you do your homework and are prepared to wait a few weeks for the right one.
