    And vice versa...
    What gives?

Is it possible? What's the difference, is it just the package manager?

Oh! all very confusing! Still getting to grips with this...

    I was reading this : /installing-compiling-dvswitch-on-ubuntu/

I thought there was more of a difference since the Alioth site has a different method of installing.

So, can I use dpkg or apt-get on my Lupu (Lucid Puppy) to install something from the Debian repository. Which makes me ask, if I have Ubuntu for instance, can I get something from the Debian repository.

Apologies if this is nonsense, I guess I want to know are the binaries different for use with Ubuntu or Debian and is there a way to check dependencies etc trying?

Individual deb, yes, no problem. I wouldn't add the repository though. It's sure to arse something / many things up.
