Window regulator price

    Hi,
Having a problem with the passenger window on a golf 2002. Window will go very slowly up about halfway up then lose power and stay half way. Then fall back down making a loud clunk noise.
Called to a local mechanic who without looking at it stated it was Probably a window regulator fault. Said he'd give me a price later on but it's "expensive"
Could anyone let me know how much this should cost to replace? I really don't want to get my pants pulled down over the price !
    Thanks

Thanks but I'm wondering how much for the part plus fitting etc as I wouldn't have a clue how to go about it.

    For an example.

The window regulator went in my Coupe. Garage wanted €250 for the part, and an hours labour at €100.

I bought the part online for €45 and had it fitted myself in half hour. Prepare to be screwed.

I'm thinking it's not worth paying that sort of money on a 10 year old car . Was hoping it would be 100 euro max. Is it complicated as a DIY job for a complete novice to car DIY ?

    Ring a few mechanics
I'd also ring VW for a quote on the part and fitting.

for DIY: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1015107-DIY-Replacing-the-front-door-window-regulator-clips-and-or-door-lock-module (this will also give you an idea of the effort involved)

I paid €300 for supply and fit of driver side door of my Golf'00. This is a common fault of that vintage of Golf. When my Passenger side went I fit myself I'm an average DIY, takes about 4 hours for a novice but it saves a fortune. you will also find two portholes with rubber caps when you remove the inner door cover, remove these and you can access the two brackets that hold the window glass in place - might have just come loose and needs to be re-tightened. worth a look first.

thanks, looks like its a bit above my skill level. Wouldn't be confident attempting a job like that :(
Would any of the mechanics on boards , George dalton , Nissan doctor be interested in quoting a price for a standard service on this car and replacement/repair of window regulator if that is indeed the problem?
    Car is a 1.4 golf 2002.
    Thanks

No quoting for work here - keep it via PM.
