Getting TP-Link TL-mr3420 working on Meteor

    Hi Guys,

Due to the area I live in, my only option for wi-fi enabling the house is to use a 3G usb stick.

Meteor is the one that works the best, so i got one of them, and bought a Tp-Link TL-MR3420 3G wireless N Router to send the signal around the house.

I have followed the instruction to the letter, I can get the laptop connected to the router, but the break in connection is between the router and the Meteor stick, according to the network managment centre on the laptop.

Anyone got any experience doing this?

Any help would be really appreciated.

    :)

What model USB stuck are you using ?
What APN did you type in the settings ?

    isp.mymeteor.ie

    Thanks,

I just tried the broadband.mymeteor.ie APN and it seems to connect in the router when I go into 192.168.1.1 ,

but in my 'network and sharing centre' there is a big red X between the router and the internet.

The 3G stick is compatible with the router so that's good

    http://www.tp-link.com/common/subject/3g-router/compatible/list/

My default IP address was different (192.168.5.50 ?)

Anyway, check the log on the router - it's under System or Status on the left hand side IIRC

    That doesn't sound good.
What connection strength is it showing in the 3G section ?
Is the stick stable when connected directly to the laptop ?

Connection strength runs from 19% up to 69%, varying.

The stick works pretty good directly in the laptop, it does sometimes drop to EDGE, and then disconnects but not often.

Im in the Naul, and Vodafone and O2 haven got any coverage at all (I had to return their sticks) , but Meteor seems to be the best access out there.

In the 3G settings, do you have "3G preferred" or "3G only" type of thing selected ?

    3G only.

Im just after dragging it all to my Mams house in Swords, and its working away here, in fact im posting this through the router now.

It has kicked me offline once though.

With regard to it not working in Naul . . . surely the router doesnt sap that much signal off the stick so as to render it useless?

Maybe I need to move the router around the house til i get signal like this here in the house in Swords.

In your situation I'd definitely has it on 3G preferred - otherwise it'll disconnect when the signal drops down.

EDGE isn't that desperate if you're stuck.

Definitely move the router around the house - near windows and or upstairs maybe ? If you search boards someone has linked to an app that will show you what the signal strength is when the USB stick is in the laptop - walk around your house slowly and maybe you might find a sweet spot.

You don't need to have a really string signal to get decent speeds.

We don have an upstairs :D so Ill have to slowly checkout around the windows and that.
