With all this hoo ha over qualifying I think everybody has forgotten something very important…The Nations Cup!

What will happen to this prestigious tournament that brought Ireland its first silverware since the 80s? Will it be cast by wayside like Paul Butler’s international career? Is the tournament bigger than Trap’s Army and it’ll continue to go from strength to strength without us?

These are questions that must be answered!

Seeing the joy of the crowd in Lansdowne earlier reminded me of that historic day when Robbie lifted the Cup, brought me right back to the good aul days..

We should enter a development squad. Would be quite interesting - the likes of Hoolohan, Brady, Pilkington who won't make the plane to Poland.

Was it meant to be annual?

Surely this mammoth of a tournament could only take place once a generation.

Fairly sure it was always biennial.

Doubt he'd be interested at his age.

It was never going to happen in 2012 anyway.

If we experimented in it a bit, Wales continued to improve and Scotland got a better gaffer, it could be a useful tournament. NI to be whipping boys, obviously.

I find it strange how a cup like this is seen a non event(maybe cause its new), yet the 6 nations is the be all and end all in Rugby!

Loved duffers comment 2night about the rugby.

Well, the 6N is less like the Nations Cup and more like Euros in terms of its significance and quality.

I agree, it's good that Duff and the lads are all aware that they have to compete for an audience now.

Its every 2 years, next one is scheduled for 2013 in Wales;)

It'll still die. Delaney will come out and say we're more at England's level now and we're fooking the whole thing off.

What exactly is England's level? Because I rather not be associated with them, a country that thinks it should win every tournament when it never really has a chance. I think Ireland is much more of a team than England could ever be.

Egg chasing is different because there are only about eight countries in the world that are actually decent at it.

England have consistently been better than us through every period of history in football. We'd love to have their record if we are being honest.

Well that will be a busy summer if, sorry when, we have to play in the Confederations Cup in Brazil (as Euro Champs) and defend or Nations Cup crown.:)

The profile of it would be raised a lot if England joined it and made in a home nations proper. I doubt they'll ever be arsed thought.

Sorry, ROI is not part of the 'home' nations and never will be.

Down with that sort of West Brit talk.

I'm just referring to what England would probably call it if they entered.

Home Nations, five nations.... I couldn't give a **** what its called.

What's this 'We'd' business? Speak for yourself, England have won just one major championships. Which of course they didn't really win, thanks to the blatant robbing of the West German team. So when you consider it's their national game and their invention, it's a pretty bad record really.

If we were still a county of 4million, with a semi-pro league generally watched by crowds of less than 2k p/w and therefore no way to even create end-product footballers ourselves then yes we'd defo like Englands record.

But for a country of 51million people with one of the strongest professional football leagues in the world frankly their International record is embarrassing.

Huh? England's fans are a generally pessimistic lot in my experience. It's the media that builds them up, most of the English people I know don't take any notice of the hype.
