Extremely slow 3 mobile broadband

Hi. I'm wondering whether anyone is experiencing the same problem I am with 3 mobile broadband.

I'm living in the centre of Galway city and currently getting a speed of approx. 3kbps. This started today mid-afternoon and hasn't improved.

We had the same problem last week, from Sunday night (6th Nov) until last Thursday. We spoke to the 3 store in Galway and they acknowledged there was a problem and that they were upgrading the server or something like that.

Since then, it's been fine until this arvo. It says I'm connected to the HSDPA network despite the slow speed. I'm reluctant to call the 3 helpline since last time I called about a problem, the operator told me he didn't know what was wrong and maybe I should ask my friends or family (I'm not joking).

My job involves working online hence my frustration. Just hoping someone has some knowledge about the issue!

    Thanks.

    Moved to Midband.

This is the nature of a 3G network. Signal strength means nothing, quite literally since there is no actual measurement of signal strength, and since congestion on the network is what's most likely causing your problems.

There's nothing you can do about this, bar move, or change ISP to one that isn't a 3G network. Get real broadband is the only sure fire solution. All 3G networks suffer the same problems somewhere.

Thanks jor el. I understand that 3G networks can be unreliable but I just found it strange since we haven't had a problem with speed in the 5 months we've had the 3 dongle.

There's no point in changing ISP now as we're leaving Ireland at the end of the year. I guess we'll just have to wait it out until the problem rights itself.
