Using ps3 in the US

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this because I just bought skyrim and really need to play it.

I have an Irish bought ps3. I have a us copy of skyrim and I have a standard def TV with an s-video/yellow red white connection.

When I set it all up the sound is fine, but the picture keeps going jumping. Like flicking really fast from the top of the screen to the bottom.

Is there some difference between US and Irish tvs?

It worked fine on a HD tv with a HDMI connection last night.

Really really hope someone knows what the problem is. Thanks

I'm not sure but I think you need to change frequency output 50hz to OFF? I'm not near the ps3 at the moment . ( 4:43 am feeding the baby)
    Hope this helps

I may be very wrong, but I think theres gonna be PAL / NTSC fps differences, which could cause the flickering. US is NTSC, and europe is PAL, so think you'd need some sort of converter between the ps3 and the telly

do a google for 'pal to ntsc ps3' or similar, and should hopefully find something

You won't need a converter. The US game is displaying in NTSC 60 Hz but you are likely using an old crap TV that doesn't support NTSC. There's two options to sort this, get a new TV or the less expensive one, get an RGB scart lead.

RGB scart is a universal connection so NTSC and PAL will work through it on any TV that supports it (i.e. any TV from Europe). What you are using at the moment is composite and through composite the TV has to support 60Hz, a lot of cheap models like black diamond won't support it.

You'll get an RGB scart cable for about 10-20 euro, if you can't find one in the shops then you'll get one online. Also if you can't find a PS3 one then a PS2 one will also work, just make sure to flick the switch to game mode.

When you get your RGB scart cable make sure it's in the AV1 slot of the TV, most cheap TVs are only wired for scart in the primary scart slot. You'll only get composite in the other slots and the same trouble.

The best thing about using RGB scart is that you are going to get an enormous jump in picture quality as well. Composite cables that you are using are the worst possible cables you can use.

What you are looking for looks like the pic below. Using a composite to scart converter will not help since you will still get a composite signal:

Actually if you are in the US you might not have scart ports. If that's the case, you'll just have to get a better TV. Or else check the video settings in the PS3. There might be an option to change to NTSC US or even try PAL 50 or PAL 60, it might work.

american tvs dont have scart. so that's that out of the question for him

ideally a regular out to composite is what he's looking for, since they've all got comp

Yeah no scart lead at the back.

I can't check the menu options because I can't read the screen. Would someone mind doing me a big favour and check the menu for me and tell me what I need to select.

Like 'go three to the left, tick that option, then move 4 down and pick that option etc.

Might just go and shell out for a better tv if this doesn't work. Goddammit I want to play skyrim.
