Hi I plan on doing the 10km run.
I'm not sure if it will be full 10km distance thou with the works going on in the park. I've signed up for a run in the park this Saturday and its been reduced from 10km to 9km due to the works.

It was last year (and the paths weren't closed)

Bugger that, no interest in formula one running.

I did it last year.

It's a nice, well run charity fun-run with a good atmosphere. Plenty of tea and biscuits and free antlers.

Last year, the route was two laps of the park, mostly on the tarmac paths,
and a little bit on a dirt track through the wood.

It was small enough numbers for this to be OK. The field spread out, pretty quickly so I dont think it was congested.

The route was fine for a fun run, but not as good as a proper club road race.

Its 5 minute cycle from my house, and the RNLI are a good charity, which is good enough reason for me to do it.

I think the park was quiet enough when the 10k started. And everyone doing the run last year seemed to enjoy it, it was for a good cause, and so on.
But I would definitely class it as a fun run, not a race.

Here's the route from last year.

Cool well m signed up anyway! Laps don't bother me too much. I was going to do the Movember run in the Phoenix Park but decided not to when I found out it was only going o be 9k, like what is the point in that?? Surely they could have allowed for the roadworks and added an extra k in there somewhere, even if it was running a small section of the race twice or something!
Anyhow looking forward to this one, the free antlers may come in handy at Xmas jumper parties this year too! :)

I did it last year. It was my first race after the 2010 Mini Marathon, so I suppose it was the first race I did after I found I liked running and kept it up after the Mini Marathon.

(I've done 25 races this year so far, so I sort of got the bug then!)

Anyway, I thought it was great fun. It was well organised & very friendly, and because of the antlers and the reindeer mascot etc, there were loads of kids / families on a day out cheering us on. There were mince pies & tea after, and there's a lovely market in marley park and a nice café, so it was a fun day out. It's very much a fun run, but it's genuinely enjoyable and for a great charity. Also, last year it was an accurately-measured course so you can be sure you've done 5k or 10k or whatever. It's also small, so much less hanging around at the start than at the Phoenix park ones.

I'd recommend it!

Wow 25 that is hardcore fair play. Looking forward to it now, really have to start running in the mornings though to get used to it, I am a terrible morning runner!

Well, frequency is the only thing I'm even vaguely hard-core in -- I'm definitely soft-core when it comes to speed & endurance! But it's fun! Enjoy the Reindeer Run!

Anyone run this today? I did, and thought it was fun -- nice course, cool antlers / t-shirts etc.
Anyone know who won both races / the winning times etc? There was no clock for the 5k and din't have my stopwatch on so don't know my time!

Did the 10k today & thought it was great!! Weather was horrible, rainy & a mere 4.5 degrees but it was a well organised event & the people running the show were very enthuastic & supportive!! Overall, a great run (not very hard)....I'll be back next year!! Well done RNLI!!!

Yes, well done RNLI. It all went v smoothly. Everyone was so enthusiastic and I love my medal & t-shirt.

Quick question for anyone that took part.
I decided against this onc based on the following in their race information pdf from the site:

Times/Results: A clock will be available for you to record your own time. Times will NOT be recorded for runners, although the times of the 1st male and female will be recorded in both the 10k and 5k. RNLI

Did anyone question why they bothered to even issue numbers when they weren't going to record any times?
Surely a waste of paper and they could have pocketed even more for this money making event disguised as a run....

The footpaths in the park were open, so I thought maybe the numbers were partly to identify runners / walkers as part of the race rather than regular park users? I suppose it alos lets' the organisers know who turned up and who is runnng, in case anyone has an accident or is taken ill?

It was a fun run for charity, so I think not having chip timing / not publishing results was fine. I was asking about times earlier because I thought there would be a clock for BOTH runs so we could check our times at the finish line. There was actually only one for the 10k. I presume the 5k people were meant to subtract 30 minutes, but we actually started 5 mins early, so i wasn't sure how much time to subtract especially as someone told me the 10k started early too!

I should have used my own stop watch, but because the race started early I nearly missed the start & didn't have time to set it. I have a vague idea of my time though.

I also missed the prizegiving as was off sheltering from the rain, so didn't get to cheer for the winners.

There are a few photos up on the RNLI Facebook page if anyone wants to look see if they can see themselves! There's a great array of antlers!

It was a charity fun-run. It was a money making exercise. They organised it to make money, they never hid this fact. Thats what charitys do.

It is fairly standard for a charity fun run not to have chips or to publish every runners time.

The numbers are to identify those who have paid the entry fee.

I wouldn't agree that it's fairly standard that charity races are like this, the Aware 10k which is now 5 mile this year is chip timed, the great pink run was chip timed and results published, even that run for Mark in the dark had chip timing and results. If you have a race with a small field of runners I don't see the point in chip timing, but they could easily have done something like the Bhaa and take down people's times and numbers as they finished.

Comparing a huge event like the Aware 10K to a small fun run is not fair.

Lots and lots of fun runs do not have chip timing or results available.

photos! If you go to Wall, they are the first batch (a mix of UK & Ireland photos).

It was great fun, I didn't at all mean to sound critical. I loved it and I ran it last year too. I'd love to know 1st, 2nd & 3rd times for each race as I THINK the woman I was chasing may have placed, but that's all. I didn't expect a full list of results or anything. hope you find yourself in a photo. and they may add more.

Can you give names of these events ?
That have stated distances and go to the trouble of accurately measuring a course.

For a charity to use any sport as a money making exercise and not offer any value for money in said event is putting out the impression of them only looking at the bottom line.
Why not pack bags in tesco if thats all they want.

I think they did offer great value for money. I suppose it depends on what runners are looking for -- I'd say most participants (including me) were fun runners who wanted to complete 5 or 10k for themselves & for charity, rather than people running for time. I heard several women saying beforehand that they hoped they'd finish it ... I'd say most of the runners felt that with antlers, a flashing red nose, a T-shirt, a medal, free tea and coffee, plus friendly marshalls etc they'd got great value for money. It was also a lovely setting and a nice course.
When I run in club races I want to beat my friendly rivals and improve my time; I don't care whether the course is scenic or not & I don't expect a medal etc. In a fun run, I enjoy other things like the camaraderie, meeting the representatives of the charity, raising money, and getting fun things (like antlers). For me they are two different things.
I'd recommend the Reindeer Runs to anyone as great fun runs.
