The only way for them to get passed the passcode is for them to guess it correctly in a certain number of guesses or if they wipe and restore it. if they wipe and restore they won't see any of your details.

Can you use 'find my iOS device' to locate and if you want to use remote wipe?

An iOS device is a device that runs on iOS firmware, ipod touches, ipads, iphones, so your ipod touch is an ios device. There is an app called 'find my iphone' that can be used to trace missing iOS devices, but unless you installed it before it went missing, you cannot trace it.

If the passcode you set is entered incorrectly 10 times by the thief, the ipod will wipe itself clean of all your info and music etc.. so no need to worry about them seeing your information.

So its unlikely you will get it back, but theres no way past a passcode without wiping the device.

Yes if you have synced it, it will be there.

When you plug in a new iPod touch, it will detect it and ask if you want to either set up as a new iPod or restore from a backup, and in brackets it should have the most recent backup from when last synced it.

Not necessarily - I don't know if that is turned on by default.

Not really that useful for an ipod touch as it doesn't have a 3G conection.

    That's totally wrong.
The find my ipod app is used by any iOS device to track a lost iOS device.
In order to track a lost iPod, the "find my ipod" setting must be turned on in location services. This is nothing to do with the App itself.

The link posted above refers to is the old version. Its out of date now.
Mobile me is gone. It works over the iCloud.

OP, if you haven't updated your iPod to recent software then you prob don't have the feature. Also, if you never knew about it, you prob didn't turn it on even if you have it.
The passcode will keep you stuff safe. The same thing happened to me, via my gym locker too. So just be safe I changed me email password, and any important sites I visited. Ther shouldn't be much other personal info on the ipod.

Sorry to hear about your Ipod. Any chance you could tell us the gym?
