My dad and i have finaily settled on a laptop... aleast i have.

This is the laptop I'll more then likely be getting : AZUS

    The specs are all good.

Reasonable ram, Good processer and good harddisk space and GT540 2GB.

But will it run BF3? Low-Medium? What frames?

Hence I was orginally a console gamer so frames don't bother me too much, just would prefer the frames to be over 30.

    Thanks!

Yes, definitely. I'm running BF3 mainly on my laptop (specs in sig) on medium settings. Am thinking of upping some settings to high to see what it looks like.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Sadly the 2GB GT540M is a mistake.

    It's actually a 1GB.

will that still run it grand on a res of 1366x768 with low-medium?

    Thanks!

I've only got a 1 GB at 1366x768, and it runs perfectly on medium settings.

That's all cool you have answered enough questions for me thanks :)

    1 more question though :P

I want smooth frames like i said, so would it be better to go with :

    1366x768

    Or

    1600x900

    Thanks again!

Well 1366x768 is considered high definition, it's between 720p and 1080p - so I'd go with that. :)

Just picked up a Dell xps 1702 with the geforce 550 card, i5 4gb ram etc for £480 sterling from the outlet store, so worth a check there as well.

Thanks for the input but probably going to stick with the Azus.

To be fair that site is sometimes wrong.

Anyway, if it is 35 FPS I don't mind that once again I was a console player im used to them framerates.

Just curious, any reason you can't get a desktop PC? (e.g. a small one)

Will be so much better for games.

Otherwise the 540M is alright for games compared to the other laptop graphics cards in that price range.

I would prefer a laptop for Portability and simply for Personal use.

    New question for you mate.

    What onboard sound is it?

    Any crashing issue's with bf3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,213 ✭✭✭MajesticDonkey

The onboard sound is IDT High Definition Audio...the game does crash, but not that often. I'd once in every 40-50 games. I've realised it only happens on certain servers though, or maybe that's just me.

Dunno if you guys have heard of this website: www.canyourunit.com

It has a big data base of loads of PC game hardware requirements, you tell it what game you want to run and it will tell you if your PC meets the minimum, recommended or max requirements. It gives fairly detailed feedback on what you can change if your PC doesn't meet the requirements. Great for people like me who know nothing about PC hardware, I use it all the time.

Yeah, I've used it - very handy. It does get the odd component wrong though - it tells me I've got 4 GB of video memory (which isn't enough, apparently) when I really have 1 GB. I assume it's sharing with available RAM.

    Thanks for the replys guys.

    I see decrypt.

Does the laptop crash or just the game? As in can you force close it once it crashes?

And thanks MadYaker, I do use the site on my current computer ;)

    Sounds good!

    1) Game, 2) Yes, and just join the game again.

    Ah I see now :D

That's good news for me, Since I play less then 50 rounds of BF3 A week ;)

May I add you on origin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,006 ✭✭✭beno619

I get 25 - 50 fps with my GT 540m overclocked with settings on medium and Ultra textures.
Card will do a good job and notebook check is a bit off I think with BF3 and Skyrim.

Showings sigs is turned off by default for everyone for many years. Only something like 2 or 3% or users have them turned on.

That's a bit strange, no? Any forums I've been on (which is quite a few) have them turned on by default.
