I'm thinking of buying a new pc as my pc seems to be on the way out.
I just went on Dell and there is an Alienware Aurora for 1099 euros.
The monitor I'm using is only 1280 by 1024 resolution anyway.
Is this pc worth it or is there similar gaming pcs out there I could get for a lower price?
I've had the same pc for over 9 years so thought I might aswell get a good one.

Not really, you could build your own for much cheaper:

    Item|Price
    Total build cost: €648.01 + €30 shipping
    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (SB-Version)|€78.65
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€31.61
    Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB, SATA II (HD502HJ)|€111.00
    Samsung SH-222AB bare schwarz SATA|€15.21
    ASRock H61M-HVS (B3), Sockel 1155, mATX|€45.89
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€41.65
Xigmatek Asgard, ATX, ohne Netzteil, schwarz|€31.61
    Intel Core i5-2300 Box, LGA1155|€152.14
    EVGA GeForce GTX 460 - 1GB, PCI-Express|€140.25

I wouldn't know how to build my own pc.
Only thing I ever did with my pc was install new ram.
I wouldn't be confident enough to build my own pc.
I wouldn't try it cos I'd be afraid I'd screw it up.
So for prebuilt pcs would that be the best deal I could get or are there better?

If you're in dublin I'll build it for free. Otherwise there's plenty of people in the Building&Upgrading forum willing to help you out :)

Interesting - I have been looking at the same but ended up still looking at a choice between these 3 at chillblast (due to them winning awards at pcadvisor and because they deliver to Ireland )

    http://www.chillblast.com/Chillblast-Fusion-Shadow.html - £510 + £50 delivery = Euros €660 approx

    CIT Shadow ATX Case
Intel Core i5 2500K Processor overclocked to 4.6GHz
    Asus P8Z68-V LE Motherboard
    4GB PC3-10666 DDR3 Memory
AMD Radeon 6670 1GB Graphics Card
    1000GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Disk
    24x Sony DVD-RW Drive
    500watt Basic EZCool PSU
    Onboard High Definition Audio
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM

    http://www.chillblast.com/Chillblast-Fusion-Striker.html - £810 + £50 delivery = Euros €1,000 approx

EZCool A200D Rev 2.0 ATX Case
    Intel Core i5 2500K Processor 3.3GHz
    Asus P8Z68-V LE Motherboard
    8GB PC3-10666 DDR3 Memory
GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB Graphics Card
    1000GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Disk
    24x Sony DVD-RW Drive
    650watt EZCool PSU
    Onboard High Definition Audio
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM

    Included Peripherals:

    Asus VS242H 24" TFT Monitor

    http://www.chillblast.com/Chillblast-Fusion-Electron.html - £810 + £50 delivery = Euros €1,000 approx

    EZCool A200D ATX Case
    Intel Core i5 2500K Processor 3.3GHz
    Asus P8P67 Pro Motherboard
    8GB PC3-10666 DDR3 Memory
Chillblast Radeon 6870 1GB Graphics Card
    1000GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Disk
    24x Sony DVD-RW Drive
    650watt EZCool PSU
    Onboard High Definition Audio
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM

    Included Peripherals:

    Asus VH242H 24" TFT Monitor

I would be keen, as I'm sure the OP would, to get an opinion on the best of these given the same price or the shadow which comes without the monitor.

That link you have been given builds the PC's for 20 euro. I recently ordered one from them - works perfect. You'll save hundreds getting them to build it. You need to order with a bank order though.

    shadow is only £510 without monitor...+ £50 = €660 approx

    Others are £810 +£50 delivery = approx €1000

Second one is the best value, better than the Alienware too. But again getting custom built one is going to be much cheaper :)

Hi deconduo - thanks for the info - could you elaborate on reasons for second one being the best and, while I understand a custom built one would be cheaper but with associated risks, how does the chillblast compare to what you think is on offer prebuilt elsewhere at this price?

    thanks!

ps - looking at the custom build - that doesn't include a monitor - and the striker model has a 24" monitor worth approx €150 - €200 I presume - with a better processor and graphics card? Is there really much of a saving with the custom build on this basis? I can't see how hundreds can be saved? thanks.

The 2nd one is better as it includes a better graphics card (6870 vs 560 Ti) for the same price. All the other components are roughly the same. The 1st one is cheap, but the GPU is no good if you want to do any proper gaming.

I was talking about the Alienware computer when I said you'd save hundreds. The chillblast ones seem to be much better value. An equivalent custom build would work out at only €80-100 cheaper when you take the monitor etc. into account.
