    Hi folks,

Im going to propose to my girlfriend soon and i'm just wondering is there any shops you can pay monthly etc or if theres a finance available!

Any help would be great as it would take me ages to save for a ring as my wages arent great but i could afford a weekly or monthly instsllment

    Cheers

    Hi,

ok I really do not mean to be mean here but....

I would not get yourself in to debt over a ring, propose give her a token ring and then save up for the dream ring, are you going to get a loan for the wedding too?
Debt is no way to start married life together.

I know there is shops that accept deposits and when full amount is paid you get the ring not sure about the finace part.
But my advise is to buy what you can afford you dont have to go for a big diamond thing , maybe buy a vintage ring that cost a lot less if she loves you she wont care about the ring she will just be happy that you want to spend the rest of your life with her

If what you're asking is that you pay for the ring in installments but get the ring when you want, then that's not possible .... you wouldn't get the ring until it's paid for.

Yeah i know that im just wondering if there is a finance plan or something like when you buy a car?

Also would i have much choice with about a 2k - 2.5k budget?

Yes you would have a very good choice with that amount, there is some fab rings out there for that price and less, most jewellers generally ask for 10%-30% deposit and the rest within 6 months.

shop vintage and you can get lovely rings for 1.5k (albeit gold, not platinum). That would be a saving 125 a month for 1 year (I know it's easy to do the math, jut pointing out that it's doable if you wait and save). If you don't have the money for it, there's no point going crazy and all out. Our parents' generation very often had very simple rings, especially when they married young - nothing wrong with that.

Look out for sales in Jewellers shops. I am in a low enough paid job and hubby got let go before we got engaged last year so we were on a very tight budget. We got ours in Ernest & Jones for I think it was around €850 (with 5 year insurance) down from €1,500. :) It is 0.75 carat in total but it has a small diamond in the middle and then a shoulder of smaller diamonds.

With a car finance plan, you get the car and pay it off over a number of years. The same doesn't apply for jewellery.

    You'd get a lovely ring for 2k - 2.5k.

Don't go for vintage rings if they won't fit, just my experience vintage rings can be rather petite that doesn't mean you wouldn't find the perfect one that fits though.

My partner drunkenly spilled the beans that he was surprising me with a ring this christmas, so now its out of the bag he said he wanted to spend 500, ive always said I wanted something plain or vintage but I think that's too much, I want a ring that will last and I like but I don't understand how people are investing so much to me its a symbol and token and the wedding is just a day I'm more focused on the rest of our lives,

Is it wrong that I'm not interested in a lot being spent on the ring or wedding, I don't even want a wedding just a small ceremony and a nice holiday.

No it's not wrong at all. I would be of similar views to you. Like I knew I wanted a real diamond/diamonds but didn't care of the carats, just wanted something that I liked and looked nice on my finger. Also had a very small wedding, 50 people for dinner at a local hotel and then back to my Dad's pub(with function room) for the afters. I always thought I wanted a fairytale wedding but when it got round to it, I was totally put off. Much prefer intimate, meaningful things. :)
