anyone got any tips for checking for a sticky brake caliper? i was thinking of jacking up each axle on axle stands ant turning the wheel by hand. im guessing it should be free enough on the back but would the front be free with drive shafts etc even if the car was out of gear?

also wheel bearings? is it just a matter of rocking the wheel from top to bottom and side to side to see if there is any movement??

    cheers

I'm sure you know this but the wheel would be hotter than the rest if he calliper is sticking

If the caliper is sticking the brake disc will be hot, could even be a burning smell. There might be excess brake dust around the wheel, more than the others. Try spinning the wheel and see if it stops suddenly at a certain point. The wheel bearing is checked using the method in your post. There should only be a tiny amound of play in it. When driving there usually is a groaning noise that gets louder with speed.

There defo should not be any tiny amout of play in your wheel bearing.please don't give false info.if it making noise on the motor way at certain speed then it's a bearing.also if the caliper is sticking u would notice it driveing.best way to check your caliper is remove the wheel and put a flat screwdriver tip between the pad and the disc and try push the piston back slowly of course just a small bit to make sure it moves.if it does then it's ok.and just a tip always open the brake reservoir cap before trying to push the piston back.and other questions just ask.
