Last week, planning permission was granted for the development of a BMX track in Ratoath, Co. Meath. Construction will commence in the first week of May with heavy equipment in use for the first two weeks (until the money runs out…).

Labour is required to finish off the track on the second and third weekends of May (Fri 13th – Sun15th and Fri 20th – Sun 22nd).

People who can swing a shovel are needed - bring a shovel, boots and something bright to wear. If you’re interested in helping, please contact jmcnally@symantec.com or ewyer@commscope.com.

If you’re not able to work but would like to help you can donate money at www.ratoathbmx.com or you can work and donate money.

    Received by e-mail...
Ratoath BMX club has finally reached a point in the build of the project to make it safe for people and traffic to enter the BMX facility, prior to this the entrance area was unsafe and we could not allow full opening of the Club. I am happy to announce that, although not fully completed to date, the Club is now open for Practice sessions and soon BMX racing.

The track will be open this Sat 29th and Sunday 30th Oct from 2pm to 6pm. Gareth, Tom and Eamonn are taking the sessions.

The Winter sessions are scheduled for one week-end day per week, weather dependant, and confirmation will be given on Facebook group ‘Ratoathbmx’.

Please join if you haven’t already.

Please ensure you have your membership card or Sticker on show or you will NOT be allowed to use the track.

Also ensure you have a proper fitting helmet and understand and abide by the track rules posted around the site.

BMX is a sport which promotes individual achievement, builds character, social skills, self motivation, discipline, determination and is healthy exercise. BMX racing is clean, exciting fun that whole families can get involved in as racers, spectators or track volunteers.

Ratoath BMX club wishes you a successful, safe and enjoyable BMX racing season.

Any idea if you need an actual bmx or could you give it a go on a dirt jumper?

Went out today with Lumen Jr. The lads have done a fantastic job. There's a great little mini-track out the back for the small ones...

I think I'm going to have to buy a BMX. It's that or spend all winter standing around watching. One of the kids gave me a go on his bike. The blood has almost stopped flowing now. :pac:

    @Lumen
What was the total cost to get your guy sorted for membership etc?

Also, if anyone knows anyone involved, can you ask them if there's anyway to make the Facebook page public. It seems to be the only way to keep up with news if a non-member and currently you need a Facebook account to view it.

    €32, via here.

I haven't done the C.I. bit yet as that's only for competitions, but I read somewhere that they'd got C.I. to allocate some free youth memberships to kick things off.

Thanks Lumen. I could see the 32, but thought the CI membership would add more. I might head out with my own mini-me today and have a look.

EDIT: Sorry, missed this at the beginning of the Membership page:

2010/11 Cycling Ireland (CI) have a membership fee of €5 for under 18 age group. This membership provides competition cycling insurance for any organised BMX events or Club training sessions on the BMX track. We have been sponsored 100 Youth Memberships from CI.

It was fantastic. Lots of people won, and many others lost.

Brilliant buzz about the place today. A couple of hundred kids from 4 to 50 racing around this great little track. It's amazing what can be packed into a relatively small space - now if local councils could be persuaded to build these with the frequency that they're building playgrounds for the younger kids this country would be a better place for all.
