Bluetooth setup

    Hi All,

Looking for some information on how to get the bluetooth in the car up and running again.

It is a second and (06) Passat and when i bought the car i can see there is a bluetooth receiver there. It is not integrated with the car itself and i can see the wire coming out from behind the radio so it looks like it was setup previously.

I am wondering would anybody have any recommendations on how i can get this up and running again. Bluetooth on my phone works fine as i have sent and received to other phones and phone is visible etc.

Any places in Dublin do repairs? Would it be expensive?

Any idea on roughly how much it would be to set the bluetooth up in the car if i needed a new setup? Again, any places for this?

    Appreciate any help!

Not a big tech head myself but here goes !

When you say there is a wire coming out of the back of the radio, what kind of a connection is it? If it is a ‘jack’ (as in the same connection that is on a set of headphones) or an iPod socket, this could simply an auxiliary wire so the previous owner could play his MP3 player through the car radio.

The standard head unit in a 06 Passat has no Bluetooth functions – it is just a CD & radio

The ‘Bluetooth’ receiver? Is there a controller with a jog wheel and possibly a little screen on the dashboard (parrot or Nokia??) then the car is fitted with an aftermarket Bluetooth kit.

This should be simply a matter of pairing up the phone to it.

Make sure the car is running and search for new devices on the Bluetooth, once it finds the Bluetooth kit simply opt to pair the device. Sometimes they ask for a specific code, these can be found by goggleing the device name and its Bluetooth code. These codes can be changed by the owner but most people leave them at the factory setting e.g. Parrot = 1234

    Hi,

Thanks for the response i haven been on for a few days.

Sorry this wire just comes out into the bluetooth receiver That somebody else must have used before me). Its not a jack or anything.

Spot on.. that is what the wire above connects into. But there is no branding on it, not nokia or parrot. And it automatically turns on when the car starts..

As for pairing it up, no joy. I have made sure i can send and receive via bluetooth with friends just pictures etc but they cant pick up the car. Which is why i have narrowed it down to the car and not my phone having the issues.

    Thanks Anyway!

If the receiver in the car is set to autoconnect it may be blocking your ability to pair with it. Turn off the autoconnect function and try again. The default codes for a bluetooth unit are normally 1234 or 0000.

It could also be that the unit needs a software update to run with your phone; this can happen if it's an older unit being paired to a smartphone.

If this doesn't work can you post a picture of the unit? Someone may have similar and may be able to advise.

Well as I said I'm no tech head !!!

How about treating your new ride to a new gadget !!!

    I would reccomend getting a Parrot MKi9200

I have it my car and its the business

I've had no problems with the phone part and its a class iPod (or any mp3) player.

On short journneys you can play music through blutooth

On long jounerys plug it in to charge and you get full artwork display on the screen (not a big deal but its a touch I like)

Approx 300 incl install, not a cheap solution but it is a good system - save up or hit up friends and family during the upcoming festive season !!!

The Parrot CK3100 is also a good budget option - but not as bells and whistly !!!!

Keep meaning to do this.. will send it later. Although as S line said i think i may just have to buy the car a Christmas present and get the new kit.

Will have a look into this.. seems decent! Might have to go for something a little cheaper though.

    Thanks Lads.

Just to let others know.. got this installed today. Really spot on piece of equipment. Easy to setup.

    - Syncs contacts
    - Voice activation
    - All the standard stuff.
    - Interface for working your ipod from the steering remote
    - Stream music via bluetooth through car speakers
    - Cables to connect USB flash drive (up to 8gb), aux in and IPOD lead.

Would strongly recommend. Screen itself isnt small but not exactly intrusive
