Pint bottles

Hi folks, been making Elderflower Champayne for the last couple of years with good success. This years stuff packs a serious punch and tastes great:D. With stocks running low decided to try cider and i have just bottled 20l and have another 20l to go. I used my own apples from the trees in my garden and added a little sugar. Tasted great prior to bottling. I also have a Muntons weissbeir and a coopers lager fermenting and they will be ready for bottling at the weekend.

I got 3 cases of pint bottles from a friend that owns a pub. But i need lots more. Just wondering if any body knows if it is possible to buy these bottles or how much a publican is charged if they fail to return them?
My friend told me not to worry about it when i asked him for a few bottles. But i don't want to hassle him for more if they are costing him money and i know he won't accept anything from me.

I know i can buy swingtops or use longnecks but i think the pint bottles are just perfect. By the way has anybody ever used 500ml mineral bottles? Will the cider last in them, I'm thinking they would be good for the likes of Electric picnic.
    Any advice appreciated.

I think it's 30c per bottle on the pint bottles.

I've used 2L mineral bottles, but I'm told the 500ml ones work fine too. They are permeable, though, so you run the risk of oxidation if you leave stuff in them too long.

Thanks, thats a lot cheaper than swingtops:).

I've used the 2L ones on the Elderflower champayne and it worked fine. I was warned about the oxidation but the champayne never lasts that long, its usually gone by christmas. Would you get away with a year do think?

Personally I wouldn't risk it, but you might.
