So.......................... I'm off to Singapore and Malaysia on Sunday for 4 weeks and in my disorganised state I have neglected to plan much of this trip (i.e. none of it), are there any hidden gems I should know about? Any must sees? And any accommodation recommendations?

    All help greatly appreciated

Go to Tioman Island!! I stayed there, in ABC and had a fantastic time. It's really chill out. If you want to party go to Shalam (different part of same island). Cameron Highlands are also good. I didn't really like the islands on the west coast as much.
    Have fun!

I've been to Singapore last year. Apart from the weather (too warm and humid), everything is well organised there.

If you are into amusement parks and staff, you may want to go to Sentosa Island. And there is a big animal park/zoo/night safari/, there are combined tickets for some of these attractions and it might not cost you much.
Also there are some interesting museums that concentrate in the history of Singapore and the area in general.

There is the SMRT - its the metro and practically covers the whole island, so you will be able to move around easily.

    Hope this helps.

I went on the Night Safari and I thought it was underwhelming, if I went by day I may have been able to see something!! Plenty shopping but very hot and humid as you are only 80miles from the Equator.

I am going to Malaysia next year so am planning this trip myself at the moment so would be interested in how you get on OP? Kota Kinabalu on Borneo would be cool but I don't think I'd be up to it as my fitness ain't the best!

The Perhentian Islands are very nice.

Overall, I found Malaysia to be only ok. Kuala Lumpur is bland as hell. One night max.

Thanks guys. Due to it being the monsoon season on the east coast, most of the islands are closed, disaster.

Heading to Malaysia on Tuesday and the plan is Melaka, KL, Ipoh and the Cameron Highlands, Penang, Langkawi and back to KL possibly via Taman Negra

Is there strict enforcement of "close proximity" law for unmarried couples ?
    This alerted me: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8439899.stm
Looking to stay in KL for a few days.

    Only if you're a Muslim.
