springer pups, what do you feed yours

Ok so i got my springer pup yesterday, she came form a great litter. They are 7/8 weeks old and the man i got her from said they were eating nuts which he gave me a bag of and drinking water.
Now the journey home was a long one and i have to say my pup was anything but well for the whole journey. She was very sick, wretched up her stomach contents and the rest.
But in her sick she did throw up these nuts which were whole but soft.
We arrived home and i got her cleaned up, she has been up and about since but sleeping alot. I no she is a young pup.
She has been drinking and going to the toilet but she has not eaten anything since.
So i guess my question is:
Are these hard nuts the best thing to be giving her or should i try her on softer puppy tinned food ?

    Also:
What food would you recommend ?

    Thanks for reading.

You have the dog a day! It’s in a new environment give it a chance get used to it. It got sick because of the car journey. It will eat when it’s hungry.

I saw your pictures, it’s a beautiful looking pup, however if I was to give you one piece of advice it would be to get it off the furniture and stop treating it like a baby. It’s a dog not a child.

We started Flint on Redmills but he never took to it. (smelled and sick). So after a week we changed to Hills Science Plan puppy formula. They're nuts, but smaller and chewable by a puppy. As HER teeth are still coming in, you might be able to water/milk down the nuts a little bit so they're soft before you give them down to her. If it was me I wouldn't be giving her canned dog food.

Good luck. Like Deeks says, the journey is what upset her stomach. She'll come round.

PS - she'll be grand on the couch until you get her a bed lol

Well after typing this thread this morning i went to the shops and found a 6pack of pedigree puppy growth & protection.
I came home put some in a dish and offered it to her. Well that did not last long.
Ok so now she is eating, tho i still would prefer for her to be on the nuts myself.
I no the cans are wholesum on their own so would it be wrong for me to crush/wet the nuts and add it with the tinned food then slowly reducing the tins to just the nuts ?
As for the dog being on the couch it was just for yesterday because she was so sick.
She does have her own bed in the corner of the room and is now using it.
    Thanks for the help

Mix the nuts with the wet food, reducing the amount of tinned food ya use each time. Some people prefer to keep a dog out side and others see it as a pet also. IMO it doesnt matter as it is either in the dog to hunt or not, you will know yourself once you start training it, and no amount of training/pampering or leaving outside is going to change genetics.

I feed my pup on connollys complete puppy nuts with about 1/2 a cup of warm water through them. He loves them and is thriving.

I had a look at your video, nice bitch. Imo you have two options.
    1. Ease of any free hunting and train the dog before you bring it shooting.
    2. Let her hunt, promote her drive and train her with an e collar and have her in the field earlier.
For such a young dog she is moving out a good bit on you, still within in range but a lot for a 4 month old pup and too much free hunting and you will find it harder to reign her in, so be warned!

i mixed some nuts in the canned food earlier and she wolfed that down and just there now i gave her just nuts and not a bother to her.
    all systems go now.

she is like a pup possessed at the minute running around the house and in and out of the back door to the garden in the dark and the wind and she loves it.
thanks again for the suggestions i will look at them all.

    just one more question:
the man i got her from says he was leaving an unlimited amount of nuts for the pups to feed but now i have her on her own would i be better to give it just a few times a day rather than a bowl full for her when ever she wants ?

    thanks,

I would only feed her 3 times a day - Morning, 2- 3 O'clock and then before she goes to bed at 7 or 8pm.
Give her about a desert plate amount of whatever she is eating.
Then over time you can space out the feeds so you are only feeding twice a day up to about 12 months of age.

If you go into a vets - they will give you a plastic cup with measurements on the side with the correct amount to give to Skye. Don't overfeed her tho - cause she'll only throw it up on ya and/or you could cause constipation and stomach cramps. Again, water them down so that they are more readily disgestible for her. 3 times a day is correct for her, but you put down the measured dose, give her ten/fifteen minutes to eat it and then take it away, even if it's not finished. She'll then get used to her feeding times.
