ok so I requested to claim my rent credit back, added the place I'm living in since february 2010-current, it asked for my landlords pps, entered that, then my bank details and requested it, how long does it take? did it on 28/10 and still havent gotten anything, once you've added the credit is that it? every time I try update something I never seem to get a refund, I might just go into the tax office altogether during the week, should be owed a load back from medical and other things as well.

Has the system issued you with a new P21 balancing statement?

And, sorry if this is a silly question, have you actually paid any tax out of which to be paid a refund - this is incredibly common, that people have paid PRSI & Levies, but not tax, and then can't understand why they can't get a refund...

Oh I don't think you get one in the post - I did my claim thru PAYE anytime this year, and I can see the P21 when I log into my account, it opens as a PDF and can be printed off as needed...

Hence my question about what the tax position on the new P21 is, like is it showing a balance overpaid?

(And if you've entered your bank account details you might well find that the money has already been credited direct to your account...)

If you ticked the "receive correspondence electronically box" in your details page the P21 shows up as a PDF within 48 hours so long as a technical fault has not slowed it down. Otherwise a paper P21 comes through snail mail in 5 to 10 days.

Regarding a repayment, a percentage of all online claims are manually double checked the same as paper claims. It may be that this is what has happened in your case. Email your local office paye section or call the 1890 line for your area to check.

There is also the possibility that you had already claimed the rent tax credit in the past and it carried forward every year since, meaning the tax you paid had already been reduced by it. This would mean no repayment would be due.
